Cool it! - Net Neutrality rules not til next summer

A lot of hype today will be in the tech press as the FCC announces it will start a Net Neutrality proceeding. What you will hear little about is that new FCC Net Neutrality rules won't be voted on until next summer. Plenty of time for the lobbyists to make sure the rules have plenty of loopholes and also to ready any lawsuits against any interpretation they don't like.

The chairman, Julius Genachowski, has the support of the two other Democrats on the five-member commission, enough to formally launch the net neutrality proceeding. That would likely produce rules for the FCC to vote on by next summer.
