| Networking with a 2wirehg-g
Alright, I have a 2wire hg-g modem which works fine, both wireless and local. It currently has 2 desktops connected to it via cable and a laptop connecting to it via the wireless network. The problem is that the modem is located on the top floor of my house, and I want to connect my xbox to the network which is in the basement. Is there a way to add a wireless router to the 2701hg-g? Which would be best, can I use an N router within the g network, would it give me any advantages? |

| reply to Ja I had, I just wanted to make sure that the connection did indeed reach the basement before making any purchases. Either way, I purchased it and it is up and running, I am however having connectivity issues, I can't connect the Xbox unless I disable network security, yet when I do so, my laptop won't connect. Any ideas as what may be the problem, I tried entering the xbox's MAC address in the network with no results. |

If you try to add another router to the 2wire, you'll get a 'router-on-router' error. What are your wireless power settings? If you have a max setting of 4, you may have to look into a wireless repeater/extender if you can't change the wireless power setting. |

Most likely, your laptop is preserving the information for the security-enabled connection connected with that network name. Somewhere in Windows there is a place that allows you to add and remove access point info (I can't remmber the page right now). Once you clear that info, you should be able to connect without the security turned on. |
