New iMac 27 Dual Monitor Setup

Old Setup Graveyard
Decided to replace my iMac 24" and 30" Dell monitor setup with a new iMac 27" system and an Apple 24" Cinema display. The 27" is a good size and good resolution and now I use the iMac as my main screen and the 24" monitor as my email/second display.

Sorry for the poor pictures. My office is dark and a flash with all those glossy monitor surfaces was a nightmare.

The iMac is the low end 27" to which I have added 4gb of memory to bring it to 8gb total. The 24" Cinema display plugs directly into the iMac with-out an adapter. When I was running the 30" off my other iMac, it required an adapter and even after having it replaced twice, it would still flicker and cause problems every now a then. A well know problem with the mini display port to DVI adapter from Apple. No problems with the new setup.

I am liking the new Magic Mouse. It is a good size and the click functions and the scrolling works great.

The other system is an HP Elite quad core system with a HP 24" HDMI monitor. Just upgraded the system to Windows 7 today. Since going Mac, the PC almost never gets turned on and today was the first time in weeks.

Nice hardware. But are you sure that's an ergonomic arrangement? With those armrests, you're forced pretty far away from the desk and screen. If you leave the keyboard on the desk, you're going to have to lean forward (no back support). If you put the keyboard on your lap, your mouse won't be close by and you'll be pretty far from the displays. Good for watching video but tough for detail work.

Oh and get some clutter in there!

I agree, throw some Post It's on that monitor and run some cords across that desk. Look like you actually do some work there.

I'm really liking your desk. The big bulge out part at the end is probably great for papers or whatever you are working on. Other than the cord mess in the back, Nice setup indeed and beautiful office, though you need a bigger TV in the corner there :P.

NICE!

But I'm more interested in your video surveillance setup. Got any pictures of that?

The public Internet part of the home video system runs on a Mac Mini and here is a link to a page that summarizes my setup: »www.craigkuhn.com/camera_setup.htm

The small LCD TV mounted on the wall displays the various cameras via the home cable system and is only used for that purpose.

That is a very nice setup, thank you for sharing it. Thanks for putting all the links together.

The stream is pretty fast too.

Shove the old iMac where that PC is, and you would use it more

Awesome setup, nice to see a picture of it. I am planning on doing a dual 27" imac setup. One with a 2.8Ghz quadcore i7, 16GB of ram and a 2TB HD. The second one stock with the 2TB HD upgrade. The second imac will be used as a secondary display through mini display port, and the system will be used as a wireless timemachine backup of the primary imac. This way I will have a mirror image of the disc and if the hardware should fail I can move to the second imac as if it was the first one. Because of the new price piont, it is actually an awesome deal to go this route with the second imac.

Very swank set-up! Love the desk, too!
I have a 19" Planar (DVI) as my Dual Monitor with a 24" 'Penryn' iMac - am I going to need an adapter to use the Planar with the new 27"?
If so, can anyone point me to it?

Awesome Office!

Love the layout and the desk. Been thinking about what I need since moving into this house last year. Still have yet to setup the home office and was wondering who makes that desk (especially the round bump-out)? Also, what is the wall color? It is very cool. Thanks.
