| optimum and 2 routers
good morning everyone, well i just got my crossover cable to finally reach the other router in my house and everything was running fine. This is where the problem starts after a few hours it would just randomly disconnect but not lose the status of being "connected." i just simply cant go to any web pages but i could upload files via torrents.

More description of what you are doing would help. Connecting the routers with the crossover cable via the LAN ports? Does the second router have DHCP turned off?

1 edit | Sounds like a possible DNS problem, though as jaa  said it could be a DHCP problem leading to a DNS problem. From your description, you have connectivity,(torrents by IP), but can not get to Web sites (DNS names). Try a trace by name and then by IP see if one works and the other does not.

| Since DHCP is turned off in the initial router you had to be specifying DNS in the computers so double check your settings. Were you using the router to proxy DNS by specifying the router IP or specific DNS servers. Try changing the DNS settings and see what happens. You could short turn use the opendns servers and see what happens.
