Westell 61xx rebooted

old stuff just never actually wrote about it before until today

hello,

About a year ago we had a 30 seconds or so blackout. The power instantly went off and back on very quickly like flipping the light switches. All devices came back (computer second router linksys) even this 61xx modem. However when it did come back on it only kept local connection! I was lucky to get an American tech support person from Verizon. He said that my configuration could not be supported way i wired things up but he did give me a lead. He said that the modems config got corrupted during this fast flick off and on of power in my neighborhood even street lights rebooted next few blocks (tv set restarted right away while cable box was still waiting to get onto their network)! Anyhow, what is interesting and good thing that i backed up before and was able to use restore configuration from modems only backup utility on the modem itself. Question: Why in the world after this restart the modem had a messed up configuration? While its backup configuration on the device itself thankfully restored all ? Why though with other blackouts that occasionally happen the device just goes on as if plugged in while this quick restart of power almost destroyed it?
