Question About Putting A Network Card In?

I want to get the Network Card at »www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a···33166015 I have an HP desktop computer, and when I look up the slots, it says it has the following Expansion Slots:

PCI: 2
PCI Express x16: 1
PCI Express x1: 4

I haven't opened my box up yet, but the only cards I should have are a video and sound card (of course USB ports too and a firewire...current Network Adapter is integrated). Which PCI Express slot should this Network Card go in?

the network card in your link is PCI Express x1.

It doesn't matter which PCI Express x 1 slot it goes into, its best not to block airflow to other cards if possible though.

How can you tell which one is a x1 slot?

Well, I finally put the new NIC in....Wasn't easy. HP told me that I would have to disable my integrated LAN in Setup....Rosewill told me that I didn't have to.

The card itself was easy to put in....Thanks for the help.....It found drivers in Win 7, but was running real slow. I then disabled the integrated LAN in Setup. It was still running slow. So I downloaded the correct driver from Rosewill's site and installed it. It was still surfing slow. I then power-cycled my modem and router and it started running faster. The weird thing is that it was showing websites wrong, not the way they should look. All of a sudden, that stopped, and now it seems to be flying along.....weird.

Ran into some problems....Either the card is defective, or more likely, the drivers on Rosewill's website do not work properly with Win 7 x64.

Every time I re-boot my computer, it plays the sound that the card is recognized before I can connect. Sometimes my speed is fast and it works well, other times it is much slower and I have to click on links 2 or 3 times to navigate. The driver is "Generic Marvell Yukon 88E8053 based Ethernet Controller", and my guess is that this card will not work properly with Win 7 x64. There is another more recent review on Newegg stating a similar problem.

So I am returning this card, and purchased »www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a···33106033 I called Intel and they assured me it would work with Win 7 x64, and even helped me navigate their site for the drivers for it (their site for drivers is tricky for me). I'm getting it today, and am going to install it today.

I would bet that is a driver problem. Hopefully you can find a driver that works otherwise you will have to get a different ethernet card :\
