Linksys WMP54G on Windows 7 64 bit

Hello everyone, today my dad received a copy of Windows 7 Professional, from pre-order, and installed it on his Dell XPS 630.

Specs: Core 2 Quad Q6600, 4GB DDR2-800, 500GB Hard Drive, Nvidia 8800GT.

Unfortunately, there are no Windows 7 drivers, let alone 64 bit drivers, on the linksys site, and upon calling them they said they were "working on" Windows 7 drivers.

His computer is in the basement, and the router is upstairs, so he purchased the very popular Linksys WMP54G wireless PCI adapter a while back, which worked fine in Vista 32 bit. The problem we are having now is that even though the CD drivers installed properly and allow the XPS to connect to our router and home network, the internet connection and local network connection is incredibly slow. Download speeds are effectively cut in half, and loading web pages seems like it is running on a 56k modem.

Does anyone who has this same PCI adapter and Windows 7 64 bit know of any current driver workarounds? This is turning into a serious problem.

Thanks, I hope this helps others too as it seems like a popular card.

This fix did it. I'm using the drivers suggested on that site and the internet connection is much, much faster. I hope this can help someone else too!

Yes I have used those drivers from RALINK before. I have use to have 2 Linksys WMP54G cards. The drivers worked in a WinME system, and I tested it my Vista64 system also. The same file does all the systems.
It is a heck of a lot better than the orginal Linksy drivers.
Here is a link to RaLink site for the drivers

Orginal File is the one I have.
IS_AP_STA_2500_D-3.2.0.10_VA-3.2.0.0_RU-2.1.3.0_VA-2.1.3.0_AU-2.0.3.0_VA-2.0.3.0_021209_1.0.1.0_Free.exe

Some notes below-- From orginal forum I found them at and a personal note below that.
*******************************************************************************************************

Linksys WMP54G Setup in Windows Vista 64 bit
Prerequisites
Linksys WMP54G Net Adapter
Microsoft Windows Vista 64 bit
Procedure
Download the RaLink (Chipset Manufacturer) RT6x/RT2500 drivers from the RaLink support website
Run the exe-file. This will install files in C:\Program Files (x86)\RALINK.
Go to Device Manager and right-click the Network Controller and select Upgrade Driver Software.
Choose Browse My Computer and Pick from a list.
Select Network Adapters and click next.
Select Have Disk and browse to c:\Program Files (x86)\RALINK\RT6x Wireless LAN Card\Installer\WINX64 and select the file RT2500 and click OK.

Choose 2L (Conceptronic) in the left-hand menu and Conceptronic 54g Wireless PCI Card Version 3.2.0.0 [6/1/2006] in the right-hand menu and click Next.

You're all set (hopefully).

********************************************************
Conceptronic is the one I chose on both the Win Me system and the Vista64 systems.
