Moderation and "system" messages

I have recently had a few messages from "system" to indicate some moderation action on posts I had made.

I would suggest that such message be signed by the moderator who took the action so that users could then ask for further explanation/details.

Having an unreplyiable message from "system" is not very professional because we have no idea who took the action.

Re: Moderation and "system" messages

While I am at it.

When a user's note note is *edited* by a moderator, there should be an automatic note added to the bottom of the text to indicate the note was modified by a moderator. (and I would suggest the nickname of the operator be included in this).

At the very least, there should be an increment in the number of "edits" to that note.

Re: Moderation and "system" messages

Ok, I have read some FAQ or previous message in this forum indicating that the anonimity of moderators when they take action is a site policy. So no point in arguing against that.

However, my point about some warning being automatically added to a post when it has been modified by a moderator is still valid.

I am under the impression that it already happens. It shows up as an edit, and if you click the edit link it will say that it was moderated.

I believe you have the wrong post. The post with the 15:09:47 timestamp shows a moderated indication.

OOps ! My bad.

the problem is that the owner of said ISP complained in a now hidden post made following my 21:08 post, so I assumed his complained refered to the post I had just made. (he is generally quick to pounce on my every post).

The fact that the 15:09 post stood for about 7 hours without any complaint or moderator action makes me wonder just how "blatant" the alleged trolling was.

Nevertheless, instead of "1 edit", there should be some other flag such as "edited by moderator" which stands until the user re-edits his post.
(for instance, if the moderator wants to give the user a chance to correct some text, once the use has re-edited the post, the "edited by moderator" can go away since the user has re-taken posession of the post).

When I hold my mouse over the "1 edit", I see "Oct 25th, @09:37 PM (moderated)".

To the chagrin of many, many DSLR users.

I *object* to the idea of notifying a user via System IM that their post was moderated.

Since there is a standing "do not question the moderators actions" policy, I'd rather not get any moderation notices, anonymous or otherwise.

I can't see the point in notifying posters about moderation actions since they have no real say in the matter anyway.

That's why I objected above, but didn't articulate why. Thanks for doing that.
