Requiring a disc is a little lame, but at least it's free. I wonder if the disc will allow updates.

PlayOn works nicely for us in the meantime, and we also make use of Hulu and YouTube.

Shouldn't this be a download from the PSN store?

Download Netflix? I'm not sure what you mean.

Yeah, download Netflix as an application. We can download just about anything through the store. Why would Netflix require a disc? My latest download was a Ratchet and Clank demo and it was 2.4 GB. Would the Netflix disc really be much larger?

Like a streaming app program instead of being disc reliant, kind of stupid since the 360 doesn't need a disc.

If I'm not mistaken you can only download games, movies, music from PSN. Any new apps requires an update. I'm assuming there wil be a Netflix icon on the XMB.

I think PS3 home was downloaded, also the folding application was downloaded IIRC. Heck, we download firmware updates.

The netflix app on the 360 was only 4 MB to download. I don't think space is a problem here.

According to the official announcement, which confirms speculation that Netflix streaming would come to a console that isn't the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 owners will be initially required to have a free, Netflix-provided Blu-ray disc in the console to watch said movies, taking advantage of Blu-ray's BD-Live tech.

(You can quickly request one at netflix.com/ps3, PlayStation 3 owner.)

Later, we should probably expect Sony and Netflix to offer a firmware update or application that will do the work of the Blu-ray disc. Looks like the PS3 implementation of Netflix will be similar to the Xbox 360 version, letting users browse and update their "Watch Instantly" queues from the XMB.

More details on the good news is available at the PlayStation.blog.

The first "Home" was in beta and it was a download, it became part of the XMB after an update. Folding was a download but was listed under "Games", then it became part of XMB after an update.

It's a great, but very short demo. We get the game tomorrow. Judging by what we saw the game should be a lot of fun and in the tradition of the prior R&C series. The demo was clank puzzle solving, some of it included time bending or I guess action cloning?

I have both consoles so I guess it will help with not having to switch over when I feel like watching netflix now . One thing I wish they would do is actually have more content in HD. Many of the movies in my watch now are not HD.

Had my disc a couple days now, very impressed with the quality of the video, especially the stuff converted to HD. One warning the HD downstream requires up to 7 MB connection. If you have it thought it looks so good.
