rip off

These prices are not impressive. I use MetroPCS which include talk, text, web , GPS and unlimited 411. Plus I have my phone insured through MetroGPS. My grand total is $66 a month after tax. If I want that with T-mobile probably $100 + per month.

And your MetroPCS coverage compares to T-Mobile's... how? Not everyone lives and travels within the small area of MetroPCS's coverage.

Maybe I'm just reading that wrong, but wouldn't you be paying $85/mo to T-Mobile for an unlimited plan with insurance? Also, that paying for GPS stuff is weird - T-Mobile doesn't charge for GPS.

So for an extra $19/mo you get much better coverage than Metropcs. I suppose if coverage doesn't matter, whatever.

LOL, man only if you were here in my store to see how many people stop using metroPCS after a month of wasting their money just to switch to boost. Coverage is a downside for metroPCS.

One thing. MetroPCS is available in very few areas. They are cheaper because their service is only available in limited areas. Good for those who don't travel much and live in a covered area. Their costs are lower because their infrastructure is extremely concentrated and limited.

brianiscool, did they actually sucker you to pay for GPS? If so you are getting ripped off by your provider. GPS is free service provided by the US Navy if you have a GPS receiver chip in your device. Don't worry AT&T does the same thing with its customers. AT&T told my friend that he needs to pay monthly for GPS even though I showed him on my phone that GPS will work without a monthly fee....including Google Maps. Needless to say I don't think he believes me.

AT&T charges a fee to use their GPS Navigation service, which is a tad better than Google Maps. You pay a fee for the service, not for the GPS access.

I can't get MetroPCS here in St. Louis. In fact, there are a number of metros that can't get... MetroPCS.

Boost's network sucks worse than MetroPCS's for data, and Boost doesn't have as cool a selection of phones as MetroPCS.

I can't get MetroPCS where I am right now (Denver) or where my hometown is (Fredericksburg, TX). I can get two local unlimited providers in TX though, but that doesn't do me any good because I'm in Denver too much. I can get CricKet in both places but that doesn't do me much good because their network tends to suck in both places.

I know friends in FL (where relatives are) who like MetroPCS and that's fine. However for MANY people it won't serve their needs.

AT&T GPS Service is a rip off. Why pay when there are free programs you can use? Google Maps, AmazeGPS, MGMaps, We-Travel.

Yup you mean because of the gaps between the purple "push pins".....
Wyoming, Montana, North and South Dakota get the "no service at all in 4 contiguous states" award.

KEY: Purple Pins = Coverage

Sounds like someone is comparing smartphone data to dumbphone data. The 79.99 Plan is Smartphone data , dumbphone data is cheaper ..10.00 I believe so it wouldn't be 79.99 if you needed only dumbphone data. This is the EMP+ though , the non contract.

I think the point here is that their name "metro" is a clever way to say:
"Not available if you don't live on an Interstate Highway..."
This map actually makes their network look more ubiquitous than it actually is. Last week they had a clearer map that really showed how "geographically specific" their network really is.

EDIT: I just checked my home area. Guess what? No coverage. The Salmon/pink color means future expansion.

Being a "national" carrier has NEVER been Revol/MetroPCS/Cricket's business model. In exchange for the world's longest range cordless phone (not a cellphone), you get much cheaper and better plans. You trade suburban/rural coverage for much cheaper urban coverage.

If you live in a market it will serve their needs. Home, grocery store, job, school, soccer practice for kids, movie theater, walmart, your done. If your going somewhere else, pay for the roaming, like in the old days, don't be charged every month for the ability to roam somewhere where you will never step foot in your life.
