| Video Card Help?
Hello All,
Im just now getting back on the site its bad that I have to ask for help as soon as im back but please help me.
I have im thinking a 256MB video card with DVI inputs, I can only find one bar code on it but it has no more stickers on it or maybe im missing something that could tell me what kinda video card it is so I can get the correct drivers. I hope this bar code helps someone point me in the right directions to finding the driver im also thinking its an ATI video card.
bar code "87B988K001839".
also has in white letters RoHS on the back, I cant take a picture right now because my camera is currently messed up but I will provide any information on the card for assistance. Thank You all and hope your having a blessed day. God Bless! |

| Can you see any of the stenciled letters on any chip - especially the bigger video chip?
Any approximate date sold\bought? Anything on the fan (if included)?
The barcode returns nothing when I search.
If it is a somewhat newer video card then the drivers are likely integrated and you would need to download a package and see if the ATI installer can find the model. -- Brian

| Well the video card does not have a fan included on it I will look soon and see if any thing is wrote anywhere else to help me get assistance. I noticed when I had the video card installer and my monitor hooked up to it the computer makes it the main video card but it doesnt install the video card driver just installs the default vga driver for microsoft. I'll look around and see what I can find. |

| reply to oursys08 Does it have like a brand name on it? i.e. Gigabyte, Gainward, etc.?
Another option is to try an application called GPU-Z, like CPU-Z gives you data regarding your GPU, make, model, voltage, etc.
Hopefully that should give us some additional info.

| reply to danielk Just wanted to update this post, ive tried several programs still with no luck. im thinking the video card is fried, i dont see how when i havent done anything to mess it up but thats way somethings go. I will explain the things ive tried maybe that will point us in things to try. Ok when installing the video card and hooking it up to the monitor I can hear the computer loading but with no video, the video button on the monitor turns green then about 10 seconds later it turns orange again should I assume the video card is fried? Thanks to everyone for reading and your replys with assistance in helping. I have an old desktop laying around I will try it in that computer and post back a response as soon as i try. Thanks again and god bless! |

| reply to oursys08 Is this your card?
»support.gateway.com/s/vidcard/TV···mv.shtml
If so, its only to be used for TV. Not monitor.
I just googled your model and thats what came up. Its just a TV tuner card. Which means you can watch TV over your computer. Not play games.
And it says ATI in big letters all over the card. There are only 2 manufacturers of most video cards. ATI and Nvidia. Should help. |

| no the card is green with dvi input, it doesnt have anything labeled on it that I can find just one barcode and ive already posted that. If by looking on the card and it has some writting on the chip maybe that will help i'll try to take a picture of it and see if I can get it clear enough to see that way we will know exactly whats going on and then i'll be able to find the right drivers that I need. |

| here these pictures should be able to answer any questions that arise and we should be able to figure out which card it is now. It did have a sticker on it that (im thinking said ATI - 256mb) but not 100% sure.
Im really sorry for the large pictures, I just wanted you all to have full detail of the video card. Here are some pictures that should help get this video up and running on my desktop.
The desktop computer im trying to install it in is a "Gateway 840GM". If anyone can help please let me know what bios options needs to be changed. I will have to change the bios options while having the monitor hooked up to the onboard then switch the video cards. Hope this helps and thank you for everything god bless all. |

| reply to oursys08 As far as the BIOS settings, you can tell it to start up on the AGP slot ( which is what it looks like that card is), instead of the onboard.
This way if it doesnt detect anything, it will revert back to the onboard. But if you have the card in and seated COMPLETELY, it should run. Sometimes you think you are going to break the card by pushing so hard. just make sure you cant see any of the gold colored connections at the bottom. Ok, maybe you can see them if you look real hard. But for the most part they are gone. LOL!
After that it should just be a matter of installing the drivers. Unless the card is fried for some reason. Like static electricity. Make sure you ground your self first. Touching the case while it is still plugged in but turned off will do this if your PSU is grounded correctly. Then after that, unplug from the wall to make sure no power to it. Then pop the card in.
And it does in fact look like one of my old 128 or 256 cards...
When they still put COM ports on them. Because they thought that DVI was a fad. Hope this gets you a little closer to getting it working. Talk to you later. |

| Hi,
Just read your reply friend and it isnt and AGP it is a PCI card, The motherboard if you read the specifications then the bios settings for video are for like PCI express and stuff. I can't remember exactly the settings but i'll try to take a clear enough picture to show you the settings in the bios to know what I need to change. I wished someone would be able to tell me this video card im pretty sure when I purchased the computer off my friend when the video card was installed it was an ATI 256MB but not sure from there thanks everyone for the help check back and i'll have more pictures to come thank you all and god bless for your help and replys. |

| reply to oursys08 Hunh. You are right. Just looked at the specs on here (»reviews.cnet.com/desktops/gatewa···697.html ) and it does say it has a PCI-e slot open. All of my PCI-e cards have a locking tab at the end. It catches the motherboard to prevent it coming out.
The only other thing I can think of would be to install an ATI driver only, not the full Catalyst software suite, and see if the card comes on then.
So it would be like this. Install driver while still on the onboard video. Of course it will freak out. Just install it. Then turn off computer, and put card in. Start it back up. If it doesnt work, then you take it back out, go to onboard and uninstall the ATI driver.
As for the BIOS setting, like I said, put it to anything other then the onboard to start. And then if it fails to find anything it will revert back to the onboard. Usually there are only 2 video options. However if you have already tried this and the monitor still wont come on, something tells me that card is dead. New PCI cards are pretty cheap. You may have to just pony up some cash and get a new card. Especially if you want to do more then just browse the web you are going to need it. |

| reply to oursys08 said by oursys08 : Heres what happens when I install the video card the monitor turns green like its coming on then goes to standby and I cant see the bios to set any options If you get no video during POST, drivers aren't going to change anything. The drivers only come into play when Windows starts loading. If no video at POST either you've got the BIOS set incorrectly and it's trying to use the onboard video, or the card or cable are dead. |
