pandora : It seems weird to me that Sony has a more open console than Microsoft. I don't understand why Microsoft won't allow users to put in whatever memory they want. SD, SATA, USB aren't closed standards. They are well defined.

I'd love to replace my Xbox 360 hard drive with a 500gb drive. I don't understand why this would bother Microsoft in any way. It certainly hasn't bothered Sony.

Even my DVR's (DirecTV HR21) run with external hard drives without issue, and with at least informal (passive?) approval of DirecTV. At least they don't try to stop my drives from working.
--
"People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use."

amungus : Just heard about this. No idea it was coming until today. Doesn't affect me, but it makes me wonder what's going on with this.

Was considering a new hard drive, and heard that it was possible to add a 120GB ..unofficially.. No idea if this is affected by the upcoming update. Guess it'd be best to either clear off space or suck it up and pay twice as much as I should for a newer drive... Hearing about these little memory card add-ons is cool too... too bad they'll be pretty much useless in a short time.

Details here:

Petition appears to also be online against this...

Anyone here affected by this? Thoughts?
