Wii *can* play DVD, but nintendo doesn't want it to by default. it's not a hardware issue that it can't do it for.
my guess on this is they're holding out so they can say streaming netflix is another new feature of the next-yet-to-be-announced-but-highly-speculated-2010-release wii. of course there's also speculation that there won't actually be a new wii release in 2010, but instead will be a hardware "upconvert" which allows new features... (which, even though netflix could happen on the unit now, could still be added as a feature of even an 'upconvert'). |
