If you're using Linux or are comfortable compiling with Cygwin, Kismet is an excellent option. Tried it myself and liked it. It's free to boot.

Passmark Wireless Mon not free but you can try the trial out for 30 days does more than monitor, it allows you to connect to AP an etc.

Been using it since it first came out... Good program more features have been added like support of 802.11n
