 Convert a Motorola 2210-02-1006 to 2210-02-1002

Hello,

I have a couple Motorola 2210-02-1006 modems here that I would like to set up as spares for some corporate DSL sites. Those sites use VPN equipment behind the modem, and the modem has to pass the public IP address it gets through PPPoE to the VPN device for it to work properly. It turns out that the way the 2210-02-1006 version allows for the public IP to be assigned to an internal device does not really work with the equipment, but the 2210-02-1002 version works perfectly.

You would think that the easiest solution would be to put the modem into pure bridge mode and use PPPoE in the VPN device. However, there is a bug in the VPN device, which I have reported to the manufacturer, that prevents the use of DHCP relay while using a PPPoE WAN interface, and they need the DHCP relay for the remote sites to work properly.

Can a 2210-02-1006 modem be converted to a 2210-02-1002 model with a firmware update? Does anyone know where I can download the 2210-02-1002 firmware? Both models are particular to AT&T, and their tech support has told me that they do not give out firmware upgrades for customers to download.

Thanks.
---H
