| Speedstream 4100 remote configuration
Hai!
I have a setup at home that I'm using to host. My DSL seems to die every 20 hours or so. No warning, no indication via LED's, just dead. The only way to get things working again is to turn off the modem then turn it back on.
This can be a pain, especially when I am at work. I'd like to find a way to get to the config page remotely. I can't find any straightforward way to do it. I tried setting up forwarding on my firewall, but since the config page and the rest of the lan are on different subnets, it's a no go.
I upgraded the firmware, (...53), but there still is no remote config option in router's admin page.
I would call ATT, but this has happened before, and I don't really want to spend 3 hours on the phone with them to tell me my Windows 98 is too new.
Thanks for any help. |

Not too old.
No idea what the problem is, which is why I'd love to be able to reboot it remotely.
Thanks. |

| reply to wartsolio This may be a dumb question, but how would you remote in if your connection were down?
Otherwise I'd say set up Logmein or some flavor of VNC on the host machine and remote in that way.
Although it allegedly supports remote admin, I'm not sure if the 4100 supports end-user remote admin.
Here's the manual: »www.speedguide.net/images/hardwa···nual.pdf |

| I'm not sure how I'd connect if the connection was down. I suppose the problem may be a synch issue between the modem and my server. If so, the connection would still be alive, but dead between the server and modem.
If that's not the case, I could set up a script on the server that would run and reboot the modem when the connection dies, but I still would need to be able to "remotely" access the modem config pages as the server and modem config are on different subnets... |

join:2009-10-27 | That's strange... because if I plug my laptop directly into the modem the only way I can access the config pages is if I manually set the nic to an ip address on the 192.168.0.xx subnet.... |

wayjac Premium,MVM join:2001-12-22 Indy | Your modem is bridged The sbc/att speedstream pppoe modems have the ip address: 192.168.0.1 subnet mask: 255.255.0.0 The modems lan dhcp server uses 192.168.1.64 |

1 edit | yeah, it's bridged for the server/firewall. the firewall handles the ppoe negotiation.
uh, I relented and called ATT... they claim it's a line filtering problem (the connection dropping out). Even though I've had it setup like this for 3 years, and this problem is not new, but hasn't been happening until about a month ago. Also, all the phones have filters on them... so... *shrug* |

You should consider not using the router long enough to see if the issue persists without it |

| About a month ago, we had to get a new hamster for our lightning generation wheel, but other than that the newfangled sun container devices are shining on my rocker as usual, allowing me to enjoy the talking box while reading the Daily Bugle after a long days work at the smithery.
The telegraph conversion machine does have a technician readout, but nothing that could be interpreted by mere mortals is contained within.

I do not have a router attached to the modem.
Modem-->Firewall[linux box]-->server[linux box]
That's my setup. |

on a more serious note, you should probably go outside to your NID. open it up and you'll fine a small grey connector device in there (on the right hand side). its probably 2 1/2" x 1" x 1". take off all the connections to it. pry off the back of it and remove the henwey inside there. -- I've come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass and i'm all outta bubblegum. |

daveinpoway Premium join:2006-07-03 Poway, CA | If AT&T says that you have a line filtering problem, perhaps one (or more) of your filters has failed.
Do you have any extra filters that you can try substituting for the ones that you are presently using? |
