 | [Cable TV] Media Center/TiVo problems Ok so this may sound like an odd problem but then again this is Mediacom we're talking about here
I have a small 19" HDTV up in my bedroom which can receive the regular analog cable channels in SD and the QAM channels in HD. This works perfectly with the exception of a few odd channel numbers such as 100-2 for our local CBS station. I'm not going to complain about that....as weird as it is, it works.
However, I have a laptop with Windows 7 installed. I have attempted to set up both Media Center and Nero Liquid TV (TiVo for PC) to use my cable signal. Here's how the signal problems break down: TiVo Digital - not even an option (antenna only) Analog - does not find any channels when scanning, only presents a black screen, not even static. Media Center Digital - no channels found Analog - no channels found
Literally the only thing I am doing to get the cable signal to my laptop is unplugging the cable from the back of my TV and plugging it into the TV Tuner on my laptop. This means it's the same cable, same room, wall jack, everything. Even weirder, when I put the cable back into the TV, everything works perfectly. WTF? Does mediacom just hate tv tuning laptops or something? |

 | Did you go through the Windows Media center setup? |
|
 | reply to wyssaj01 Are you sure your TV tuner is QAM capable? Previous versions of Windows Media Center didn't support QAM tuners directly. Windows 7 will support unencrypted QAM but needs a tuner that supports it.
Is your Mediacom area digital only? Otherwise I would expect the analog channels to be found. |

 | reply to wyssaj01 @ Anonymous, Yes I did attempt going through setup, several times. It never actually detects a signal so it asks me to manually set up my connection. I have tried doing ClearQAM on one tuner then setting up the analog signal all at once and I have also tried configuring just the analog signal and neither one works.
@ WhatHappened, Yes, I have the Hauppage HVR-950Q. The site says it is a ATSC/NTSC/QAM TV Tuner. I found some Win 7 MC drivers so I'll try those out and report back. Our regular SD channels are not analog as my TV does not report them as being a digital channel when I press the "info" button my remote since it does not show a signal strength as it does with a QAM channel. And yes, I saw that LiquidTV is not QAM compatible which is unfortunate because I really like the TiVo experience and I'm EXTREMELY impressed with the solid feel, ergonomics, and layout of the TiVo remote. I love it already and now that I have the Mediacom DVR remote and my HP MCE remote in front of me, I look at them and shake my head in disappointment. |

 | Auto signal setup never works for me in Media Center (never shows any signal My tuner card manufacture claims it is a Microsoft issue). For OTA, I always do the manual signal setup (MCE loads a list of channels based on your zip code from zap2it and then I disable the ones I don't want).
I don't have Windows 7 yet, so I don't know if it will load a list of channels for your area based on ZIP code for your cable provider's clear QAM. |
|
 | reply to wyssaj01 I have the same tuner and with auto setup (with me providing the zip code and picking the right channel lineup) I can get all of the analog channels and clearQAM HD locals. |

 | Yeah it works with the new drivers now, it even auto detected! Sad part is I should have thought of that sooner, #1 this IS Windows we're talking about and #2 I'm a computer science major with a special focus on hardware and networking. (My college lets you specialize in certain areas of computer science as opposed to a general degree)
Hopefully soon CETON comes out with those 4 tuner cablecard tuners so i can get my ESPN HD on the computer though! If you guys haven't heard about this yet, head over to Engadget HD and search for ceton cablecard. Back during CEDIA, this company called CETON announced a quad tuner cablecard device for media center that can be installed in any PC because cablelabs removed the oem bios requirements on the cablecard tuners for pcs. |

How can you be a focus on hardware and not immediately go to the website to get the latest drivers? Hell I throw away any driver disks and go straight to the website at time of install. |

 | yeah i know. my computer science class this semester is a class in VB6 (yes i know how old that is, it won't even run on win 7 natively, i have to use xp mode). I haven't had to do anything with hardware since we built our desktop hackintosh. Full time school and full time work and all kinds of all-nighters are really starting to have an effect on me.
Take the TiVo remote for example. Logic says that the LiquidTV installer would have installed the remote drivers for me automatically. HELL NO! I searched for hours online looking for these damn things and they were simply inside a folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\LiquidTV\Drivers)! Oh I was so mad when I found that out. Even after all this, I'm still considering a MCE setup down in our family room and ditching the crappy Pace DVR we're paying mediacom $20 a month for right now |
