anon posted : Move the speed indicator to your Max speed. Select Modify all network adapters. Select optimal settings.
The MTU will be set once you have done these .
It will than ask to reboot. Do so.
When you are happy with these settings click on preferences.
This contains the Latency setting/adjustment. Mine is set ( from memory)to 200. Try the various figures, I found 200 was the best for my set up.
Also, after reboot you will have a Backup file showing on your Desktop.

anon posted : Unless you are confident enough to hack the registry then you will have to download one of the free software progs. I live in the UK and the most popular I would guess is TCPOtimiser.
To use it you simply set the MAX speed that your line will allow, in your case it would appear to be 6k. Then select Optimise. OK that and reboot.
The above is just for basic settings. There is a lot more can be done to gain more speed, but as the Irish guy always says, you need to put up your line specs. i.e. My line is supposed to be able to handle a max download of 11000kbps, but because I use a certain router/modem and a piece of software I get 13500kbps.

m i k e posted : At my university I get a fast Internet connection. I can download at up to 90mbps (Speakeasy.net speedtest) on both my Ubuntu setup and my Mac OSX setup. Windows Vista also seems to be able to get up to 90mbps. When I run Windows XP (on the same machine as Ubuntu) however, I get a maximum download speed of 30mbps. What is causing this difference in download speed?
