| periodic connection loss after upgrade from 1.5 to 10
I'm a newbie to this forum. Have had extremely successful experience with Sprint/Embarq for eight years. After upgrade to 10Mb/s two days ago, my connection (on the modem) will drop out and come back automatically every 20 minutes to 4 hours. This is a hassle with my VPN connection. On a much more minor note, speed tests usually result in around 5.7 Mb/s download speed.
I have filters on my phones here, and I read somewhere that might be a problem? Also, I see a lot of discussion about noise levels, SNR, etc. but I don't know how to obtain those kind of numbers to provide on this forum.
Thanks ... |

| reply to htech Get used to it. They're more than happy to take your money but not so happy to actually give you what you are paying for. I've been fighting this battle since they were Sprint.
Plus, now that CenturyLink has taken over, they can't seem to even figure out who I am or where the service actually is. But they can send me a bill for almost $100 a month like clockwork.
Hopeless. |

| reply to htech Update: The connection seems to be stable now; it hasn't cycle for 36 hours straight. I'm not sure if they did anything or not, but I'm satisfied.
The speedtest is still returning around 5 instead of the advertised 10. I've heard that I may need to replace all of my phone-jack filters with a single whole-house splitter. Does anyone have any experience with that helping?
I have had Sprint/Embarq for eight straight years and they have been solid as a rock in reliability. I switched to cable high-speed for 3 months and came running back because of the frequent outages. |

1 edit | They put a house filter on my system, but it made no difference. I also get dropouts, not losing sync, but periods where I get timeouts and the browser says unable to connect. It's very frustrating. It plays havoc with my VPN connection. It's hard to make a living using an ISP with problems. This just started a month or so ago.
I have been thinking of switching to Comcast, but read with interest that they have outages. Wow! |

Because you have a problem with your connection does not mean "the company sux" or that the equipment is garbage. |
