Grand Caravan power sliding door

I have a 2003 grand caravan that was recently involved in an accident, and subsequently required the power door to be replaced. Of course, they used all of the existing mechanical parts from the old door.

However since the repair, the door does not function correctly. At times it will reverse during operation, and sometimes it doesn't reverse as easily as it did when there is an obstruction. It's a worry because it's on the side where my 6yr old sits.

The repair was done by an independant bodyshop. Would they have the necessary equipment to make adjustments or calibrate the power function, or should I take it to a dealer? Does a dealer even have the ability to calibrate the door?

Yes, I second that you should take it back to the original shop that performed the repairs. Give them one extra chance to correct it/repair it properly before taking it to the local Dealer for correction (after notifying the Insurance Company that after two attempts the problem[s] remain uncorrected by the original shop).

If the people at the dealer actually did their training and know how to read through repair manuals and service bulletins you should have no problems.

My problem is I have no faith in any dealership employee having the skills to use the resources they are provided.

You can say that about just any service job, but you can't say it is true for every employee as statistically and factually you'd just be incorrect. There are plenty of excellent techs working at Dealerships and just because you may had a bad experience that doesn't make it the norm. That could have just as easily occured at an independent shop.

You really would rather pay a independent person without Factory Training trying to learn on your dime how to fix your vehicle?
