Ford makes a quarterly profit
Ford actually made a profit this past quarter and exceeded Wall St estimates by a large margin. But all is not good for the long term yet. The UAW in the US(Canada approved it) rejected a group of rule changes meant to give Ford the same flexibility in car making that the foreign auto makers have. So either Ford moves more production to Canada & Mexico or the UAW finally wakes up in the US and accepts reasonable work rules. Otherwise, Ford production in the US will cease to exist.

P.S.>> I have been impressed with the improving quality of Ford cars and am seriously looking at a Ford Fusion Hybrid or Mercury Milan Hybrid for purchase early next year. To me the quality has matched up nicely with the Lexus HS250h hybrid that costs $10,000 more with the same feature set.

The mustang has the worst interior of any Ford made of any year IMHO. When you look at their "regular" cars it's a lot better.

If i was car-shopping today and a Ford had the build, fit & finish as the Japanese or German (or, "Indian") cars, and the price was right, i would by it - but, based on my past experience (up thru last year), the Ford products were nowhere close to the competition. Which Ford products did you look at besides the Mustang?

Between those improvements and being the only US automaker to not get loans from the govt, I have to give them some props.

I saw that article and was suprised. I have had a Ford and so did my mom years ago. I personally made sure that would be my last Ford ever. I have noticed the products they've put out does look very enticing. My major problem I have is the inability to get a 5-speed manual, especially with a V6.

I've been confident Ford would make it way back when their stock was a dollar or so and I recently purchased a couple of Crown Victoria P71 Police Interceptors. A 2004 and a 2005. What awesome cars they are. There's a reason they are the number 1 car of choice among law enforcement agencies across America.

I generally like Ford. A few buddies back in HS days had old Ford trucks that definitely took a lickin' and still kicked ass.
But the first minivan we bought, a Ford Windstar, was an absolutely Piece Of Sh.
Haven't bought a Ford since. Maybe in another 5 years... Glad to see them getting their act together though.

The only reason I would hesitate to buy an ex-Police car is that I got to see the abuse they go through, and people think rental cars are bad.
As to car of choice, who really makes a RWD 4 door car with a large enough interior anymore? I do see that there are a lot of other cars being used for non-cruiser duties (Santa Ana for example has Malibus and Honda Accord Hybrids for detectives and commanders) but for a cruiser, I think they are the best, although the Charger screaming up in your rearview lights blazing can bit a bit imtimidating.

The Impala isn't practical for cops and they don't like them And the Charger just sucks. But the Crown Vic is going to be dieing soon. 2010 will be the last model year for it. The Taurus will more than likely be Fords replacement, and GM is going to bring back the Caprice by using the G8/Commodore from Holden. |
