SabreDi relung hatiku bernyanyi bidadari join:2005-05-17 | Might be good, I hope. I'd certainly like the thought of this, since I can't afford any other console.
But the phrase "modified, HD-capable Wii variant" scares me. If I'd have to buy another minimally-upgraded console just to get this (when I don't even have an HDTV), they can forget it.
It worries me because it sounds like a typical Nintendo gambit: make a hotly-anticipated feature only available on the next slightly-altered iteration of the same thing (see: GB/GBC/GBA, DS/DSlite/DSi). -- With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.

Yeah, cause that's behavior exclusively exhibited by Nintendo. Microsoft and Sony would never dream of coming out with a game or new functionalty that's only compatible with new consoles. |

SabreDi relung hatiku bernyanyi bidadari join:2005-05-17 | Oh, absolutely true.
I had no intention of hating only on Nintendo; I only mentioned them in particular because they're the only one of those I've had extensive experience with. My apologies for making it seem like I was being one-sided.
What I dislike in what Nintendo does is much the same as I see with Apple (and I dislike it in them, too): that each new "variation" on their console-of-the-moment has only tiny adjustments (like it's a little bit smaller, has one extra port, a little bit brighter, has one new feature, etc.) and is mostly, but not entirely, backward compatible. At least Microsoft and Sony, when they come out with a new console, for the most part, it's a massive upgrade. Of course, given what I've heard of the PSP/PSPgo, it's becoming a similar matter there too.
All that said, though, your point is well taken. -- With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.

After thinking a bit more about it, I wonder if the Wii can support the processing demands of streaming Netflix. On my modest 2.0GHz dual core business computer, a typical movie takes up ~70% of the CPU time. A Wii has a 729Mhz processor. That may not be enough to run a full screen streaming "flash" video. |

Ok the Wii is $200 the XBOX 360 an PS3 are $250. So you can't afford an extra $50? If money is that tight why not just get a Roku box and stream Netflix that way? Those are $100. |

The Wii will be able to do this, otherwise it wouldn't make sense to implement Netflix streaming on it. -- "Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe." - Albert Einstein Jose A. Hernandez * System Admin * MPLS, Minnesota, USA * |

you need at lest 128MB to 256MB VRAM to get 720p or 1080p
also the component cables are like a 30$ add on NO digital out such as HDMI etc......
ALSO TRY LOADING A YOUTUBE VIDEO ON THE WII IT TAKES UPTO 20min'S TO LOAD ONE on a 10mbit |
