[Speed] Docsis 3.0 rollout in the Lehigh Valley very soon 50Mbps

RCN is planning Docsis 3.0 rollout in the Lehigh Valley very soon per a contractor/installer for them which had a meeting
on tuesday 10/27. He says the service is gonna be
a 50Mbps service they are still deciding on the upload
speed...They are gonna rollout in sections....per the
installer.

Re: [Speed] Docsis 3.0 rollout in the Lehigh Valley very soon 50

That's awesome, I wonder what the pricing structure will be? Will this lower the 20/2 package a little bit or just make the 50/? a lot more?

Either way, I am happy to hear it.

If they can support it, I see a lot of people complaining that they can't saturate their 20Mbps line (only getting 10-12) during peak hours as it is.

This will fail unless they can actually always serve at least 40Mbps.

I'm hoping that the 20/2 price would come down since it is too expensive compared to fios.
This is good news eitherway.

You can get the 20/2 for $49.99/month.

That's not bad at all.

I was just reading this : »www.lightreading.com/document.as···site=cdn

quote:
the new services will offer peak data rates of 20 Mbps downstream/5 Mbps upstream, 40 Mbps downstream/5 Mbps upstream and 60 Mbps downstream/10Mbps upstream. Pricing will allow for one to two year commitments ranging from $59.99 to $199.99.
For small businesses though.

I didn't get around to calling the local office yet, but the website states for:

$49.99/mo
+ modem = $52.99
12-month contract

As far as I know, I am not under any contract. I've been an rcn customer for years. About 2 years ago I called and complained about my bill being over $220/month for cable/phone/internet and they changed my package. I don't know if they can do this again. I'll give it a try though.

I called RCN and asked them about the price changes, was put on hold a few times, and was told they do not show the $49.99 price in their systems. The did, however, have the 60/10 plan available in my area, yet they couldn't say a price, or at least the nice lady didn't want to tell me... I really don't need the speed. So they are accepting residential users to know knowledge and they're not lowering prices either, especially if you're already getting a discounted rate, like I am.

I even told the lady if she could save me money, i'd get the HD expanded pack, or Cinemax but no bite.

Hmm, I just called my local office (in the Lehigh Valley) and they switched me over to the $49.99 plan (I have my own modem, so no rental). Couldn't be easier.

That is for new customers only. I called the local office number today.
I did ask if they had any pricing info on the new 40Mb or 60Mb speeds, but they didn't have anything yet. She did state that 60Mb should be available in the beginning of the new year.

I wasn't a new customer. I had my 20/2 setup in July of this year.

what was the exact number you called to get that price?

The only thing that I can see as screwing me up on getting the lower price is I just renewed my "contract" on August 29th, in which i'm getting the 20/2 plan, starz, HD-DVR, Premier cable package for about $103/month. so.... lol maybe that might be the case, yet my bill still shows the price at $85/month for my internet... it gets too confusing.

I think your browser is caching your speed test download.

You shouldn't be getting nearly double your download rate.

try the RCN tool.

I'm sorry, but $116 is freaking steep in my opinion for internet speeds, even if a gamer. Latency > Speed (if not hosting servers). However in your case, the upload is nice, it's even nicer if you had a web-server running a site too. There is a plus to the higher upload speeds, I just don't see, in my eyes, the need for anything over the 20/2 plan I have now.
