Street Fighter IV - Strange Move with Gouken?

Okay, I've been perplexed by this for quite some time now and I'm hoping you guys can shed some light on this for me please.

When I'm using Gouken, quite a few times in the middle of battle, I will do the gesture to throw a fireball but instead Gouken will do some kind of pose and make a noise. It almost looks like he's posing in some kind of Tai Chi stance, or sidestepping a bit or something. Now I'm not sure what this is, what the benefit of it is, or even how to do it at will. Can you guys provide some insight into this please?

sounds like a "taunt" move...

usually it's done by pressing the two heavy attack buttons simultaneously...

perhaps my mis-clicked the buttons?

I am not sure what the move is called, but I know what you are talking about. It is his counterattack move. It is performed by doing a reverse dragon punch motion - back, down, down-back, then either punch (high/mid) or kick (low). If you time it right, you will absorb an incoming attack and counter it with a powerful blow. I believe you absorb the damage the same way a focus attack does, meaning you slowly heal it back if you remain untouched.

When you do it, he makes a quick stance change and lets out a quick humming noise.

Yep. That's it! Thanks.
