 [XPHome] Hotmail acting up

Since last weekend my hotmail account has been acting up. It takes forever to load. When I read an email and try to forward it, most times it will not load the forward. When I read an email and want to go back to my inbox to read another it will not load. I have to load one of my other favorites and then come back to read a new one. I have run all my security scans twice. Rebooted. Turned off and turned back on and no change. I use AVG, Spybot, Ad-Aware with Ad-Watch, ATF cleaner and Advance Registry Optimizer.

I did not know I had such a thing. Not to much of a computer guy. Just use the basics of the computer and the security. Where would I find that in AVG?
I will look while waiting for a response. I just tried hotmail again after turning off the computer and turning on again and it worked for forwarding once. Will try more of the other problems and see if they work. Thanks Cudni.

Found the link scanner. If hotmail continues to work will leave alone but if future problems I will de-activate and see what happens.

Turning off AVG Link scanner didn't work. And it is still stumbling.

How are you accessing Hotmail?

Through Firefox.

Try here:

Mozilla Firefox > Tools > Add-Ons

Try disabling any add-ons related to AVG and restart Firefox.

In the following link disabling "AVG SafeSearch 9.0" seemed to work:

I think I have a deeper problem. Computer has been crashing. There is a blue screen with writing on it but it dose not stay uip long enough for me to read it. My event viewer has some errors. Under APPLICATION there is an ERROR date and time was this morning. Under SOURCE it just has a Ci. Under SYSTEM the error under SOURCE it has SYSTEM ERROR also SERVICE CONTROL MANAGER. There are a lot of the last one. IE seems to stay open longer than Firefox. As I'm writing this a small window, DATA EXCUTION PREVENTION, states "To help protect your computer, windows has closed this program, CTF Loader. Man whats going on?

Any thoughts?
Oh forgot to add. I installed a 1gig memory stick Saturday. But I dont think that is the problem.

My first thought was also it sounds like you're infected. But if the problem developed right after you installed the new memory stick that could be the culprit.

First trouble shooting step I'd take would be to remove the new memory stick and see if the problem persists.

Can you zip up the minidump files in the C:\Windows\Minidump folder and attach to a post in this thread?

To be able to read the blue screen:

Start > Control Panel (Classic View) > System > Advanced > Settings under Startup and Recovery > then remove the check-mark in front of "Automatically restart" under "System failure".

It takes me awhile to respond because I am on the road during the week. But I am following up. I removed the 1gig memory and things got better.
Question? How can a memory chip cause so many problems?
I will respond back with the blue screen stuff Auggy as soon as I can. Should be before tomorrow afternoon. And thanks for chiming in. You have been great help in the past.

You should not have to restart.

You can right-click a minidump file > Send to > then select Compressed (zipped) Folder

You can then click on the zipped folder to open it and then drag other minidump files into the folder.

Then "attach" the zipped folder to a post in this thread.

Not sure if I am doing this correctly. Under "Small dump directory" it states this, %SystemRoot%\Minidump and when I right click it I am not given a "Send To" in the drop down list. Am I in the right place? Or missing something?

You have to go the %SystemRoot%\Minidump folder itself to zip the minidump files.

The %SystemRoot%\Minidump is the C:\Windows\Minidump folder.

Auggy. I'm sorry I'm like a baby with this stuff you have to hold my hand and walk me through it. Could you tell me after I uncheck Automatically restart where do I find the systemroot file. Oh by the way. I ran my Ad-Aware SE Plus. It found a critical item and I deleted it. Things are acting normally again. So far. But still would like to follow up for the blue screen to see if it was the memory or not. I would really like to re-install it. Thanks.

To get to the minidump folder type or copy and paste the following in Start > Run and select "OK":

%SystemRoot%\Minidump

The minidump files should be in the that folder, if that folder exists.

You can zip the minidump files or upload them one at a time if there are not too many.

OK, the minidump files do indicate the problem was hardware and most likely the new RAM.

After removing the new RAM did you experience any more blue screens?
