Q? Why would a memory stick cause so much trouble? |

| said by turbovmax :Q? Why would a memory stick cause so much trouble? It could have been a bad stick of RAM or that RAM may have had problems with your system.
Did that RAM match what was already installed? |

1 edit | Now I am having problems updating XP. When it checks my system for latest updates I get an error message,
Files required to use Windows Update are no longer registered or installed on your computer. To continue:
Register or reinstall the files for me now (Recommended)
So when I click to register, I get this,
403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied.
May this be related to the past hardware problem? Did it change something? I have never had a problem updating. |

| The problem is most likely from system file(s) not being properly registered.
Try re-registering the following files related to Windows Update:
Start > Run > cmd > OK
Then, at the command prompt, type the following, pressing "Enter" after each command:
regsvr32 wuapi.dll regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll regsvr32 wuaueng.dll regsvr32 wucltui.dll regsvr32 wups2.dll regsvr32 wups.dll regsvr32 wuweb.dll
Restart the computer afterwards. |

1 edit | OK. Will try that.
On another note. I exchanged the memory and the new/2nd one causes the computer to not even boot. There are beeps at the power on and a black screen, so nothing. This is weird. I cannot believe that I got two bad sticks. Could there be another problem?
They all succeeded the re-registering. |

For the memory, it may a compatibility problem or it could be another bad stick.
I would suggest to dedicate a new thread to the memory problem and post it in the Computer Hardware Help forum. |
