DIR-655 Slow Internet speed with wired Ethernet

Hello, I am upgrading from an old Dlink DI-614+. I bought the DIR-655 for a better wireless connection on a htpc across the house.

With my old setup my wired computers had full internet speed from my windstream speadstream 4200 DSL about 3mb (i live in the country so no fast cable connections available for me)

I removed the old router and installed the new one. Everything connected fine. But the internet speeds are atrociously SLOW the speed test at »speedtest.knology.net/ gets anything from 5kbps to 150kbps

But the upload is full at 297kbps. This is my ISP max

I connected one wireless computer and my connection is about 60% signal strength about 60mbps The Internet speed tests are normal. about ~2600kbps and 296kbps upload.

Of course my modem connected directly to my computer get's full down speed. I changed the modem to bridged mode. And set the username and password in the DIR-655. But the speeds have not changed. Enabling and Disabling QOS doesn't do much. Slower if disabled I think.

What settings should I be using to get full bandwidth capabilities on my ethernet ports? Since my wireless devices are getting full down speeds from the modem through the router. I should be able to get the same from the wired connections.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Are you experiencing these slow wired speeds with one PC or multiple units?

Make sure you have the newest drivers for your NICs and try running a Tweak test on each PC.

I think I figured out the problem. I am using Vista and I needed to specify full duplex on the ethernet ports specifically. Under network connections properties. It's default to "auto negotiate" and once I changed them to full duplex the speed was back to normal. My motherboard as 2 ethernet ports though and I plugged the cable into the other port (to verify) and with it's default setting at "auto negotiate" it runs just fine. So it's a little confusing. But either way both ports work at my dsl connections top speed now.

thanks for the help.
