[Internet] CRTC confirms throttling 10 hours per day

CRTC found some way to ignore arguments and deny the Review and Vary to rejevt the 2008-108 throttling decision that had given Bell Canada the right to screw its competitors as just as it does its own customers.

However, in that decision, I see an oportunity. The text towards the end discusses the recent ITMP "framework". The text of the decision fails to discuss "discrimination".

Lets face it, CRTC wasn't about to give Bell's competitors a vacation from throttling while Sympatico continued to get screwed. They have repeated a number of times that GAS and Sympatico must support the same amount of pain.

Why am I posting this here ?

Because I now think there is an opportunity to make those ITMP complaints to the CRTC on a united front that includes both Sympatico and competitors' customers. Because in the end, if the CRTC is to judge that Bell's throttling isn't OK, it must be a judgement that applies to both Sympatico and GAS.

1 edit
Bell throttles sympatico users between the hours of 4:30pm to 2:30am everyday.

Edit - I know this because I am a sympatico customer and Bell did not tell their customers when they started doing it. We were like WTF and call bell about it, they would not talk to us about it. We had to find out through forums like this and any news articals we could find.

Thanks loads Jackorama for the info. I know that Bell throttles internet speed but was unsure of the exact time factor.

If you can manage to do with less resources with your P2P running 24 by 7, let it, if you wait for supposed off-hour non throttle times, you'll wait forever and never pull your .Torrents

I live so far from the central office i hardly even notice the throttling at all. I guess i'm use to slow speed.

I haven't seen much of the throttles tbh. I recently got a boost to 9mbit (just happened one day) and I have the uncapped internet still, but I have been able to max out around 850-900kb/s consistently no problem.

It would have been nice to see someone bring up a visual aid to the CRTC to describe exactly how bad throttling is.

I'd wager some people in the CRTC still don't know the fractional speeds throttling gives us... its not 50% ... closer to 3-5% of advertised speeds which is a joke...

My throttling from Bell starts from around 2am onward till around 5pm. I hardly would consider it throttling because it lasts for so long...it's more like the slowest high speed internet you can find!
