| [Rant] ANS Gear Paintball
So I decide to go with ANS Gear (www.ansgear.com) after researching paintball retailers. They seamed okay at the time.
I will spare you the long story. I have placed three orders with them the last two months totaling about $500. Two times they mistakenly sent me the wrong item. Based on this last one I was a little pissed and thought some compensation was in order. All within reason though.
I e-mail and then call them up to let them know what happened. I actually liked the barrel they sent me and felt it would not hurt to have a back up. I still need the correct one though so I thought I would just buy it. I also wanted to make things easy on me as I hate returning stuff. So I tell the guy my intention but indicate I do expect some type of discount on the new barrel purchase given the two mistakes and inconvenience it caused me. What did he offer? Free shipping.
I told him that was not good enough given that my order qualified for free shipping because it was over $100. so it was free in the first place had they gotten it right. Not to mention that they would have shipped the exchange to me with free shipping as well. They also were going to reimburse me for the return shipping. All I was looking for was the free shipping which in my opinion is a given and a $10 discount as compensation. He said free shipping is all he can do.
What kind of idiotic business decision is this? So I decide to return the item for replacement. They are out the additional purchase I was going to make. So the guy tells me to send it back via US mail because it is cheaper for them. Never mind that I work long hours and the post office closes at 5:30pm. I told them FedEx or UPS open till 7:00pm but they said they cost too much. So I have to do all the legwork to fix their mistake?
Now, they are going to reimburse me about $5 for the return shipping, spend about another $5-$10 to send me the exchange. How hard would it have been for them to simply discount $10 of the price of the item and send it free shipping? It would have been a few bucks more but at the same time they made a new sale.
Am I out of line here? |

| Wish I could. I actually work at the credit union my card issued at. If I dispute the charge I am actually hurting my credit union and not really impacting ANS Gear.
Since the amount is only about $50, they likely would eat up the cost. Costs them more money to process the dispute through Visa. ANS would not be impacted in anyway. |

That was going to be my next purchase before things went sour. |

I take a keen interest in the data that comprises my FICO score and have never heard of chargebacks being a factor in how good your credit is/isn't.

| reply to harryhoudini Well, I sent ANS Gear two e-mails already regarding this topic and not a single response yet. That is bad service. I also filed a complaint with BBB but I know that does not do anything. I did find about 7 other complaints on there about them.
Since I did not send the barrel back with a confirmation of receipt, I am now worried I will be out the barrel. They may say they never got it. Wish I could have found a place locally to go to. Would have saved me the hassle. |

they may be able to convince a D.A. to press theft / fraud charges (highly unlikely), but report to a Credit Reporting Agency? again impossible unless you signed a credit agreement with them.
lastly, I know of no credit card company that will report a charge-back to a CRA.. |

| reply to harryhoudini Update: So I have a game this Saturday and needed a harness for the new tank I purchased. I called a few local shops and also visited a few. None of them had it. So I then went online and tried a few different online shops, when I was checking out I saw they were on the east coast and estimated shipping items within 24-48 hours. They also charged extra for out of state orders.
Well, given my predicament I decided to order one more time from ANS Gear. Ordered the pack I need, the barrel I also need and a paintball caddy. I put in the notes to double-check my order because there have been three prior mistakes.
Well I get the shipping notification from them this morning. Guess where they sent my order? They sent it to Texas. I am in Los Angeles. What kind of idiots do they have working there?
I never got a response to my e-mail complaints I sent before either. I filed a BBB complaint as well. I am going to call in today and escalate to a supervisor. That makes four orders so far and three of them with mistakes.
Also, when I went through chat to check on the status of my return, the guys says, "yeah, it should be here". He did not want to get off his ass and check to see if they did get my return. I asked him to check because I need the barrel to arrive before Saturday. His response was, "Yeah, we will ship out a replacement barrel. Our mistake so we will fix it.". How did that confirm they got the barrel I sent? For all I know I wont have the replacement barrel or the barrel I ordered by Saturday. |
