Can not open ports on 2210-02-1002

I cannot seem to get anything past this thing. I am using »www.canyouseeme.org/ to test. I have the modem (Motorola 2210-02) set to public ip (seems to be the only option on there that relates to blocking anything). I have no firewall or anti-virus on the PC it is connected to. Is this a limitation of the modem itself?

You need to put the modem into a bridge/pass-through mode allowing any router or PC to hanlde the PPPoE login. That will pass all traffic to any router you have behind the modem or directly to a PC if its directly connected to the modem. Depending on the firmware in your modem there are two ways (possibly more now) to do that. Here is an old thread that illustrates the config screen in the modem to do this.

Yes the modem does have basic NAT capability but it is not a router and it does not forward ports that I have ever heard is possible. Does it have a screen to do that even? If so I am surprised and would be even more so if it worked.

If you have a single connection to the modem, you can either pass the public IP to your computer or bridge it and use PPPoE connection on the PC. Or as mentioned get a router and either pass the IP or bridge the modem and port forward on the router.

I am having this problem with the modem connected to a pc. No router and still the same problem. I have tried a router but for simplicities sake I am troubleshooting this with no router. I know how to bridge the modem, I even tried not bridging it and manually telling the router to use it as a gateway/DNS server. I am quite knowledgeable when it comes to networking but I still cannot seem to connect to ports that should be open as the modem is set to public IP. Is the modem broken or are all of the models like this?

The reason I payed $70 for this modem and I am now using it instead of the old Twowire router modem combo (That I was able to pass ports on) is because ATT kept telling me that it was my fault I couldn't seem to get more than 1 mbps. Turns out after literally hours on the phone with "tech support" (LOL) that they had set the connection to 1 mbps (As soon as I spent money on the modem I didn't need they started actually trying to help. I am paying for 6 no refund for the month I payed extra for a 1 mbps connection.). Anyway I know what I am doing and I want to know if this is a problem with the modem or some sort of "feature"? If I get a new modem (they only seem to support this one) will I have the same problem? Does anyone have this same modem and have they tried to check ports?

The modem is a: Motorola Style MSTATEA Model: 2210-02

Lots of people have that modem model and do what you want to do. Some seem to have your problems, but eventually get the settings correct.

There seems to be something about the 2210 that is more restrictive to passing ports through (the limitation to only the public passthrough option maybe?) than the earlier Speedstream models. People with Speedstreams never seem to have had these set up difficulties that 2210 users always seem to have. It wouldn't be the only thing Motorola screwed up when they were told to make a clone of the Speedstreams!

Sorry, I can't tell you specifically what is blocking the ports because I don't have a 2210. The previous posts have covered the two ways to get this to work and the settings necessary. Usually after this point if someone still has problems, it is due to a software firewall (which you don't have) that blocks the ports.

Edit: Just a thought. When you tried with your router, what subnet was the router using? Right now without the router, your NIC is set to "obtain an IP automatically"?
