Re: [WA] 10%+ Packet Loss in Kitsap

said by POUser360 :

Anyone else having the problem where your download is 1/6th the speed it's suppose to be, but the upload is perfectly fine? Called Wave a couple months ago and they offered no help...blamed it on the router even though the results were the same with or without a router...My plan is the 6mb up, 1mb down.

Here are my results:
(Directly Connected to Modem)
I think if you posted in this forum and read even a few of the posts, you would know that Wave is way over capacity. They are supposed to be working on a fix, whatever in the he@# that means. Good luck getting them to admit to you on the phone that the problem isn't your router, because it isn't.

Just making sure because everyone else was talking about packet loss. When I did a tracert test I only experienced packet lo

Maybe someone should get that guy at King 5 that deals with consumer problems. I'm sure he could get Wave Broadband to get their act together.

After the issues this evening, I've had it with Wave.

I'm giving it one more chance with Eric Wood and then I'm going to try the executive office. I suspect no one is going to do anything, so I should probably just call up Qwest now.

I know what your talking about. I enjoy watching movies on Netflix, playing WoW, even surfing the web. Really can't do much of anything all day today. It's almost like being on dial-up again. Thank god I came to my senses and called Qwest last week. The installer will be here tomorrow to hook me up.

I just don't see how they couldn't have realized these problems ahead of time. Who in the hell runs their IT and infrastructure department?!?!? I would want to kill myself if I worked in the tech support center. No wonder they are just telling everyone the problem has to be their router, what can they do?

How ironic that they have a "FAN" page on Facebook!

Yesterday (January 3rd) was a horrible day. I've been checking the internet speeds every 20 to 30 minutes and all of a sudden at 1:30am the download speed is still bad, then 30 minutes later it seems to be normal.

I know yesterday I tested it a little before 1am and it was crap, then I tested it at about 7am and it was fine. If this was a congestion issue, why would so many people stop using the internet between 1:30am and 2am? If it is congestion, to me it seems like a few people, maybe even one person, is causing all these problems. If that's the case, it seems like something Wave should be able to stop from happening.

Either way, I think Qwest will be gaining a lot of new customers in the next few weeks. I'll be fine if the best they have is 7mbps down.

I can -- service was provided @ my location to the prior owners.

1.5mbps sucks though.

Back in November we directly hooked it up to the modem and it still sucked. Then the guy at tech support made it better and blamed it on the router saying it slows it down. The thing is, how does a wireless router drop 6mbps all the way down to 1-2mbps? My guess would be if you tried connecting to it from down the street.

Hey look, 10:09am and the internet seems fine....

See thats what I have been trying to tell Wave Broadband techs all this time, how at one minute the bandwidth can be all there then 30 seconds later when you run consecutive speed tests, one after another, it drops down super low stays there for an half hour or hour for me then jumps back up then drops down.

Their bandwidth is very unstable!!! They dont have the equipment or leased backbone to support all the customers with their crazy speed tiers that no one gets!

Also my hunch is, the local engineers always say the backbone is fine and not congested. Well it must be the employees abusing the network while at work or with their free accounts, or people are stealing as much bandwidth as they can with uncapped modems, pretty simple to do!

I was told 5 days ago I would once again have the local supervisor for the Sequim area contact me, well not only is the wave broadband email tech support address ignoring me, no one in Sequim has contacted me!

They are aware of the problem and will not do anything to fix it! I say we do contact "Jesse" at King5.com and all tell him our storys which is "we are paying customers of a service they cant provide what over 75% of the time?" That means they are falsly advertising and ripping customers off, the money customers pay is for also maintaining the equipment and bringing new services for customers..

Wave Broadband, YOU SUCK I hope your company goes down the toilet! and I am reporting you to the FCC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well... the Qwest install went like this:

They were supposed to come to the house today, as the order person said a tech was required to come to the house. I was fine doing it myself, as I have had DSL two times before and have a freaking computer science degree! Ugh. She game me a window of 8am-5pm... LOL! WTF!!! OK.. at least I'll have working Internet.

I do stuff around the house today, no biggie, normal day off. Around 3pm or so, I know that no one is showing up. I call their order desk, and the tell me that they already 'flipped the switch'. Duh. Been through this before. I ask where the hell the modem is, and she tells me I will have it by 8pm, as it was sent by UPS. Heh.

Dealing with any phone/cable/TV company is almost as bad as the government. The modem shows up around 7pm by UPS. I hook it all up, and things are working as normal. The pings are a little higher (normal with DSL), but the packet loss 0%. I can use my high speed connection again.

Now don't get me wrong, if Wave could get their s@%t together it blows Qwest out of the water.

Here is a speed test...

As of now, I have both for the time being, and will see what happens with Wave Suckband. I guess I'm just lucky enough to be close to the CO for the DSL connection so I can get a 7mb connection.

So does anyone think the "4-6 weeks" that was said back on the 15th of December is actually legit? Or are they just trying to keep people from leaving them or complaining?

It's weird that my upload is almost twice as much as it's suppose to be. Today the internet was fine from 2am-3pm, then it went to crap until 11pm and seems to be working alright now. The download isn't what I'm suppose to get, but it's better than 1mbps from Qwest...

I spoke with Eric Wood about that very topic and when I asked him pointedly he said that they were still on track for the 4-6 week period (we're now at 3-5 according to him) at which point all nodes will be upgraded.

He said that they will of course be triaging and the nodes with the biggest problems will be upgraded first.

The first SS above is only 2 minutes of time. The second is a full 10 minute window. This is an absolute joke for service! How can a company do this to their customers and get away with it? I'm a system engineer by trade, if I provided this service to my customers, I would have been fired a long time ago.

I just got off the phone with Wave. The Tech is giving me a discounted Bill for the month, as well as scheduling a technician to come out to my house on Saturday. My internet has been degraded since early December.

Right now I'm getting about 3,000 kbps on the download. I'm guessing the node you're on is a lot more congested.

Just to give an update:

There are 7 or 8 nodes in the Port Orchard area with congestion issues. Over tonight and tomorrow, they are undergoing maintenance at 2AM. I suspect something has already been done to my node as my packetloss is *significantly* less than it was previously.

I've confirmed this with Eric (call center manager, not Eric Wood, plant manager) @ wave this evening. I've got his cell and will be calling him tomorrow to report results.

He's genuinely confused regarding the information I'm getting from Eric Wood about 3-5 weeks when his NOC people are saying they're doing maintenance this evening that is purportedly going to help. Eric is asking for clarification from Mr. Wood. We suspect this is an over all "bandaid" or first-step fix that'll get us ~75% of the way there and that we're looking at 3-5 weeks for total resolution on all ends.

I wish all of you the best, hopefully it gets resolved very soon.

It's taken years for Wave to fix my area but it seems I'm the only one from the SF area that ever posts in these forums. With lots of customers reporting problems I'm sure Wave will fix things. Hang in there.

Thanks Jim.

If you talk with the managers @ the Kirkland call center, they're pretty nice. I've dealt with 2 of the 3 and both are really cool guys.

I'd buy them a beer if I could.
