Shutting of my iPhone

Does anyone know if you can still use the iPhone after having
it shut off? I'm sick of paying the mobile data fee, but would still
like to use it as iPod, calendar, wifi stuff. I appreciate any info.

I believe you can use it as an Ipod and the wifi will work. The phone will be crippled once the Sim is de-authorized.

I guess pulling the sim card out now will answer that question?

Everything will work just fine, it just becomes an iPod Touch.

As another poster correctly noted, it then becomes an ipod touch which is really an iphone with no phone.

You will lose all cellular capabilities(phone, 3G data access etc), but everything else should still work fine.

Remember to turn on airplane mode, or it will continue to power the cellular part SIM inserted or not. Wifi & bluetooth work while in airplane mode. You can also get a blank SIM in case you ever want to make emergency calls, all other cell features would be disabled in that case. iPhone i believe comes with a blank SIM for this very reason. Also remember that GPS won't work because it needs a data connection & wifi isnt very useful out on the road.

But with Wifi in your house it can help you map the trip from the living room to the basement.

Yes it will work and I would recommend leaving in the unactivated sim just so you don't keep getting reminders that there is no sim.

Also if you do upgrade it via Itunes after you have deactivated the line with ATT just use PwnageTool or any of the activators to reactivate it so you can use the new features and not get stuck up with it asking to activate the phone.

The trick is that you just need to jailbreak it from there on out if you are going to keep upgrading the phone while it is off of ATT service. That's why you want to keep the sim card around and why you want to use the Pwnage Tool to do it. I used my iphone as an ipod touch for awhile and that is what I did to make sure I could use it with out being on ATT.
