Something I've been meaning to post...

My new -toy-
Well, two weeks ago, after having my license for over a year. I finally purchased an HF rig.

Purchased it as part of a kit from a local Ham whom was getting rid of it due to cut back in hours at work.
The kit was as followed:
Yaesu FT-897D with the "internal" power supply (FP-30).
Software plus CAT cable
LDG AT-897 Tuner
LDG Meter
Plus, a Pelican case for the transceiver setup.

Buddipole Deluxe system

A very nice grab and go kit.

Would have never discovered the offering had I not been on Craigslist of all places at one in the morning.

I haven't had much of a chance to really start using it. Been trying out for an hour or so every night I get a chance too.

Don't have any permanent antennas yet. So when I do have the opportunity I'm using it with the Buddipole.

SignaLink was to satisfy my desire interest with digital forms. Main reason for the purchase it the netbook I own only has one audio port. Either mic or speakers, not both.

Nice rig!
I've got a BuddiPole I use with my Elecraft K2. Great antenna system. I've used in both dipole and vertical configurations, and it always amazes me how well it works.

I also have the 897 with the AT-97 Tuner. I like the look of that external meter, I may need to pick one up at the Stone Mountain Hamfest next weekend.

As a former broadcaster, I am a little obsessed with microphones, so I have added the MD-200 to this rig. Since my shack is in my great room and also doubles as my a desk when I work at home, it's a cool addition in my mind.

Looks sharp! I see you have the SignaLink USB there too though you didn't mention it. What software are you running for rig control and digital modes? I used Ham Radio Deluxe and DM780 (part of HRD) for day to day logging and digital modes and N1MM/MMTTY for contesting.

I use the SignaLink USB for casual digital modes but my radio (Kenwood TS-2000) has good RTTY filters but I need to be in FSK mode which the SignaLink doesn't support so I use a homemade custom cable for FSK.

Enjoy!

Using the same software as you are, HRD and DM780. One minor quirk with DM780 in Windows 7 is it has to be set to run with admin privileges for the first use. After that all is fine.

The SinaLink was a purchase after the initial setup and make a comment in the last line.

While y'all are admiring the ray-dee-o, I'll ask the OP to pass the Ass-Kickin peanuts (in the upper left corner of the pic). It's all where you place your priorities I guess...

That can has been sitting there, empty, for at least 3 years. Them were good peanuts.
If I had some, I'll be more than happy to pass them.

Clean your shack once in a while, OM.

I started out with nothing. Today, I still have most of it.
