Ok so everyone here has been bugging me. Here are some photos that I have scrubbed and I think are safe for sharing. I may have more in the near future....
This series is of the waveguide. Sorry that they are so big I have no skills with any photo software. |

I'm going to have to start posting some stuff. Only prob is I'm under NDA so it sucks bigtime for showing some of our new fun. |

No NDA here but I am very selective of what I show. I would show some of the other goodies in the site but I know better. |

1 edit | reply to AMD Phreak Hey Phreak uh I hate to tell ya this but somebody ripped you on that hardline, it looks like after they pulled out the center conductor they squished kinda oval when they re-reeled back up.
You need to take it back to the flea market and complain.

I think they gouged us on the connectors too... They were very expensive. -- "No job is so important, and no service is so urgent that we cannot take the time to perform our work safely." -- AT&T, Your World, Destroyed. --Safety One Tower Rescue Certified --LLigetfa:"Wimax is like teenage sex. | reply to AMD Phreak i've never seen this stuff before. is the corrugated copper oval conductor a waveguide? How does that work? Is the emitter in the hut and the waveguide carries an RF signal through air up to the antenna where it is radiated?
in which picture is what damaged? Centre conductor?
How much do the connectors run? What are they made of?
Does it matter what length the waveguide is? Do you have to impedance match it with the antenna?
What are the pressure looking gauges measuring?
great stuff! |

| reply to cdiggity said by cdiggity :i've never seen this stuff before. is the corrugated copper oval conductor a waveguide? Yes it is.
How does that work? Is the emitter in the hut and the waveguide carries an RF signal through air up to the antenna where it is radiated? Yes and both the emitter (transmitter) and receiver will be in the hut in this case and the signal(s) travel through the guide to the antenna. Also some wave guide can be dual frequency allowing larger size to carry a lower frequency signal while the smaller size carries the higher frequency
in which picture is what damaged? Centre conductor? Nothing and there never was a center conductor, I was pulling Phreaks leg with my comments.
How much do the connectors run? What are they made of? Three figures and they are machined out of brass.
Does it matter what length the waveguide is? Length = loss so to that point it matters.
Do you have to impedance match it with the antenna? Yes and in fact the antenna feed is an impedance matching device that matches the transmitter/feedline/waveguide impedance to the free air impedance that the signal is propagated into. Which I think is soemthing like a 52 ohm to 105 ohm change.
What are the pressure looking gauges measuring? Feedline/waveguide pressure, the waveguide is pressurized to prevent any moisture from entering which if it did would really fubar the operation.

| reply to cdiggity said by cdiggity :in which picture is what damaged? Centre conductor? Yeah...He used cable grips on the outside of the cable and when he pulled to hard, it stretched the outside coax, leaving the center conductor inside down a ways.
Pulling your leg...err, coax. |

3 edits | reply to AMD Phreak waveguide is a couple of inches yeah, this is rfs brand, e65. connectors are 500 bucks a pop. flex jumpers are a couple hundred or so a piece. all components are rfs brand including antennas and hanger hardware, mounts, etc.
i just finished up at the hub, i got the pseuduowire mux going, so the tdm circuits can be moved over an ip network to another location where they will be demuxed and then sent back into another mux for ds3 transit via microwave.
EDIT:
Twistflex prices are around 700 bucks. |

Interesting how the signal travels up the cable without any conductor thru the air like that. |

Still cool though. Good to finally see some of your pr0n.
edit: it looks like even you get those damn Polyphaser surge arrestors.
We had a bad run with the last batch we got with our MPR radios. On the female centre pin end when you would screw the plug onto it some of the different quarters of the centre pin would break off.
We had one short out with the outer conductor and fry a modem card. Not nice.
Also, thats a very nice big earth bar.
We tend to make our own rather than buy them because they come out about 1/20 the price. They are a lot smaller though. |
