 KoRnGtL15Premium join:2007-01-04 Grants Pass, OR 1 edit | Instead of making a whole new thread. I hope you can answer this. It is about the processor upgrade on my mobo. I went to HP site and found the following under motherboard specifications.
* Motherboard manufacturer's name: Pegatron M2N68-LA * HP/Compaq name: Narra5-GL6
* Socket: AM2+ * Supports the following processors: o AMD Phenom II Quad-Core o AMD Phenom II Triple-Core o AMD Phenom Quad-Core (Agena core) 9xxx series (AM2+) o AMD Phenom Triple-Core (Toliman core) 8xxx series (AM2+) o AMD Athlon X4 o AMD Athlon X3 o AMD Athlon X2 (Brisbane) (AM2+)
Then I clicked on product specifications and found this.
Product number NY540AA Introduction date 26-Aug-2009 Country/region sold in:
* United States * Canada
Hardware Base processor Athlonll X2 (R) 215 2.7 GHz (65W)
* 2000 MT/s (mega transfers/second) * Socket AM3
Chipset GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 Motherboard
* Manufacturer: Pegatron * Motherboard Name: M2N68-LA * HP/Compaq motherboard name: Narra5-GL6
So I am extremely confused on this. Am I able to upgrade my cpu to a AM2+ or AM3? Also. My pc says it came with One PCI Express x16 graphics (for a graphics card). Is that 2.0 or just the standard older style slot? |

| reply to KoRnGtL15 said by KoRnGtL15:How is that pc for $329 shipped? I don't like the psu that is in it. A Bestec. I had 1 of those go out on a previous machine. I do have a Antec earthwatts 430w psu in my current machine. I could take that out and put it in this new machine? Also what about a video card? Would I need a bigger psu if I added a new card? This pc would be used for internet pretty much. Would like to do some gaming once in a while. Can it hold out to current games playing with all the eye candy on? I'm slightly bemused by this
A HD and DDR would cost that much, though I would not touch a Compaq or Gateway for any price. How good is our memory in terms of what a working system cost just ten years ago Now people want the very best, for next to nothing and I'm not digging @ the OP; it's a familiar trend and the very reason the best companies providing excellent stand alone products are dying out.
The base system on that Compaq, even with upgrades won't hold up to your long term expectations. |

 | reply to KoRnGtL15 The 215 regor that is already in it is am3. I don't see the point in upgrading your cpu. You will be reaching the point where should have just bought what you wanted in the first place rather than rebuilding it all. Have you already installed the 9800gt and are not happy with the results?
The pci-express probably isn't 2.0 but that doesn't matter. You can put cards that are called 2.0 version cards in it and the performance should be fine. |

 KoRnGtL15Premium join:2007-01-04 Grants Pass, OR 1 edit | I have not received the card yet. I was just curious about the processor really. If it was worth upgrading down the line or not. Since this is a extreme budget pc. It sounds like it is not. Since I took care of the psu. Do you advise sticking the card in and calling it a day upgrade wise with this pc? I don't even think upgrading the ram to another 1gb from the sounds of it is worth it either. Ram is currently 3gb and max is 4gb. |

Yes.
I wouldn't add ram and I wouldn't worry about the processor. It should be a decent system with the 9800gt. It's time to start enjoying it:) |

 KoRnGtL15Premium join:2007-01-04 Grants Pass, OR | Do you have any must own games for pc you suggest? My video card should be here by Friday. I have a Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii. So my gaming has been on those machines. Not really into rpg or puzzle games. I have heard good things about the Steam service and probably will be making game purchases from them. The only game I do have from them on my older pc is Half Life. I am really into fps.... |

 KoRnGtL15Premium join:2007-01-04 Grants Pass, OR | reply to asdfdfdfdfdf I just noticed my pc did not come with a lower rear exhaust fan. I contacted Compaq/HP and they told me it shipped like that on purpose. But if I was to upgrade my pc. They said I might want to add 1. Should I buy 1 for the new card or you think it will be fine? |
|
 | reply to KoRnGtL15 I think you'll probably be fine.
As far as games I guess the call of duty series, farcry series, f.e.a.r series.
If you like more realistic type shooters operation flashpoint and armed assault.
If you like run and gun the serious sam series. |

 KoRnGtL15Premium join:2007-01-04 Grants Pass, OR | reply to asdfdfdfdfdf Been playing around with the system now. Very nice and the results have been fantastic. My WEI went from 3.2 to 5.9 just adding that card. I have been playing demos of the latest games. And I can max every thing out. Crysis though. I will not bother. I know you need a super system for some thing like that. 1 thing does slow me down though. Leaving PhysX on. So I leave that disabled. Thanks again for all the help and it has become a perfect budget system for my needs. |
