| No clue.
i'm trying to help a friend that has an older ibm laptop that uses windows 2000. she can't connect to the internet at all either wired or wireless. Both show connected signal strength is good. but everytime she tries to go on the internet she gets "page cannot be displayed" she is using a linksys wireless b card. i was able to ping the router. checked all the settings and i can't find what is preventing internet access.
any ideas?
thanks |

| Need a bit more info.
What's the router? What, if any security is in place? If WPA is in use, it's doubtful that the B card is WPA-capable. If WEP or MAC address filtering is being used, try disabling them as a test. If it works, it probably means the WEP key was entered incorrectly. Post the output of ipconfig /all That will tell us if a valid IP address is being obtained and if DNS info is picked up. |

| said by aguiar0016 :right now everything is wired not wireless Ah, OK. Ignore the WEP and MAC address stuff, then.
Try to ping a web site by IP address - 209.123.109.175, for example, with is dslreports.com. If that works and pinging www.dslreports.com does not, using the router as the DNS relay isn't working. You may need to hard code the DNS information into the adapter.
That may be displayed in the router status info or you may find it on the ISP's web site. |
