PCLOS and Running man.
Finally got around to changing mine around. Don't spend too much time on the desktop so it gets neglected quite a bit.

Your modesty prevents you from saying the amazing image on that desktop is one of yours, so I'll say it.

I am relatively new to Linux, even though I have tried out various distros over the past 10 years or so. Is there a good tutorial or website somewhere that goes in to how to create a beautiful, functional Linux desktop?

I am using Ubuntu Karmic Gnome with Compiz. But, so far, everything I have been able to come up with is very boring. I am probably comparing to my son's MacBook Pro 17" with Snow Leopard, which blows me away.

Thanks,
Tim

Not sure. Maybe in Google. Mine just comes from years of using Linux and just knowing what is more efficient for me. You might differ some things from any of us because it's more efficient to use for what you do, or you just prefer it. Just use you imagination. The Google wasn't a wise remark because it can be very helpful in getting what you want, once you know exactly what that is. I might suggest KDE for a newbie. There may be more options, but I spent less time config file hacking for my KDE desktops vs XFCE or GNOME(I don't use GNOME anymore, just XFCE or KDE).

Maybe you'd like a dock like a Mac has. awn-manager in Synaptic. Actually, after loading my systems up with a lot of gee-whiz desktop stuff I'm kind of starting to go the other way and get a little more simplistic.

It's a mATX case called Microfly. They are getting harder to find. The top come off in 3 pieces ...top and 2 sides. Best features are 120mm exhaust fan in the back and it will take a full size power supply.

If you can't find a microfly, there's a very similar one from Apevia that I have and really like...
