Mr Matt posted : :hmm: It appears that Cingular has a translation (programming) problem in their network. The number block serving your MagicJack has not been entered in their system. I had the same issue with Google Voice. I could call my new Google Voice number from my cell phone but not from my home phone. My local exchange carrier is CenturyLink. I had to call CenturyLink to have my local central office updated. Those trying to call your new MJ number should call Cingular repair and tell them that they are trying to call a new telephone exchange in what ever city your new MJ number is located. It took CenturyLink about one hour to correct the problem after they were notified.

Number assignment is more complicated now, because the North American Number Plan Administration issues telephone numbers to telephone companies in blocks of One Thousand Numbers. They use to issue numbers in blocks of Ten Thousand Numbers. I was unable to call the 8000 block where my GV number was assigned but was able to call other blocks within the same exchange.

Msradell posted : I'm sure it's not a problem with Cingular (AT&T) because I receive quite a few call for people who use their system on my MJ. It is quite possibly what the other poster said.

amigo_boy posted :
said by jose :

also anyone with out a cingular number can call my MJ and ring my phone and i can talk to them no issue there

It may be a new block of numbers assigned to MJ and Cingular hasn't updated their system yet.

What you describe used to happen frequently when MJ got a new area code that a lot of people were waiting for. They'd jump at the opportunity to change their number (or buy MJ) and then have a lot of problems for 4-8 weeks where people couldn't call them.

I think the suggestion was for the telco customer to call the company and report the problem, or just wait until the telco got around to updating their system.

Mark
