Official November 2009 Speed and Ping Test!

New month, new test! This month I am testing with a different browser and computer, upgraded from a Dell Inspiron E1705 to new Dell Studio XPS 16, and I changed browsers to Opera. Same as last month, I am running Windows 7 Enterprise x64.

Connection: Unlimited/1Mbps
Modem: Motorola CPEi 25150 Modem
Operating System: Windows 7
Location: Portland, OR 97232

Same thing, except OS: Linux Ubuntu 9.10/Firefox 3.5.4

I wonder if having my IP saying I'm from Idaho makes any difference?

Speeds have really decreased since I've last used it here in Chicago when it was Xohm.

I barely stayed connected long enough to do a test.

I had called the tech support ( a few days ago) about dropping connections and high ping. She said I am connecting to a tower that is more than 2 miles away most of the time instead on the one thats less than half a mile and a pretty straight shot (just 8% of the time).
The tech said they discontinued the outdoor antenna because it was a bandwidth hog.
I need a hog to improve my connection/reception.

phaqu,
Sounds like something is blocking signal from the tower that is closest to you. Have you tried different places in you house?

Im on the up side of a slight hill, Its a straight shot to the tower. Cant imagine what could be blocking it.

The room its now in is the highest in the house. I walked around the house with the modem and its the same everywhere. 1 bar.
The roof (not the attic) was the best, with 2 and 3 bars.

According to the tower finder, I am .68 miles away from the nearest tower - receiver is in livingroom on ground floor with a "solid" 3 light signal.
