rekd0514 posted : My speeds are pretty much the same as yours. The dir-655 is just not very fast I guess. The N speed is over rated on these routers. A new version of the dir-655 is supposed to be coming out that is about twice as good though. Some of the new netgear routers are a better choice IMHO.

[Help Me] DIR-655 Slow Internal Network Speed

anon posted : I have a DIR-655 which for the past year or so has always given slow network speeds. Please help!! Here's a summary of my testing:

Computer1 (wireless-g) --> DIR-655 --> Computer2 (wireless-g)
Result: ~1.3MB/s (timed by watch)

Computer1 (wireless-n) --> DIR-655 --> Computer2 (wireless-g)
Result: ~1.3MB/s (timed by watch)

Computer1 (wireless-g) --> DIR-655 --> Computer2 (wired)
Result: ~1.3MB/s (timed by watch)

Computer1 (wireless-n) --> DIR-655 --> Computer2(wired)
Result: ~3.7MB/s (timed by watch)

Setup Summary
Router: DIR-655
Rev: 1.31NA
Security: WPA2-AES (tried no security also, no change)
Channel Width: 20Mhz
QoS: off
Signal: 100% to every computer. 54Mbit on g, 130Mbit on n (as reported by router)
Mode: tried g only, mixed g/n - no change
Computers: Computer1=Win7 (previously vista, no difference), Computer2=vista, also Computer3=PS3 (same results as with Computer2). Both computers are Lenovo's (T61, X61) and I have made sure that their power management settings set the wireless adapters to Maximum Performance.
Transmit Power = high
SP1 = on
DHCP = on (have also tried giving everyone reserved IPs, no change)
Other: no port forwarding, DMZ's etc... no router trickery set up anywhere.
Environment: Small condo. There are many many wireless networks about, but my signal is 100% and I'm only 10-15 ft from the router. No phones on 2.4GHz spectrum (mine are specifically marked as 'wireless friendly' - they run at 6GHz).

I understand that I am not to expect to reach anywhere near 54Mbit/s or 130Mbit/s rates, but I'm only hitting about 11Mbit/s. One more thing - I know that computer1 is not the limiting factor because at my father-in-law's house on a Linksys WRT-54GL I transfer at over 3.5Mbit/s over wireless-g (more than double what I am getting with wireless-g on the DIR-655) .

I have scoured the internet and spent countless hours trying to troubleshoot this to no avail. I appreciate any help you guys have for me.
