| reply to eberglar Just got back from the Verizon store ... which was PACKED. Everyone was crowded around the Droid Eris (a pretty good phone too) and the Droid. They had 4 Droids out and 3 Droid Eris' out and people were still waiting to play with them.
I finally got a chance and man, it is a bad ass phone. Fast, responsive touch screen, YouTube worked directly from the browser, it looks a lot more "industrial" as my GF put it, but I like that. And did I mention it was FAST? I haven't played with a 3GS but there is simply no comparison between my 3G and the Droid. You flip the device and the screen instantly flips. Slide the screen to reveal the keyboard and bam, the screen flips. Animations and transitions are instantaneous. The only gripe I could find was scrolling a full webpage quickly is still jerky like most other mobile phones.
I even performed a simple webpage load test (dslreports.com) and the Droid handily beat my 3G ... both over 3G with full bars.
The only thing I couldn't play with was the email (Exchange) side of the house. Has anyone been able to find a review of the Droid running Exchange email? -- trafficcloak.com - pptp/sstp vpn services |

| reply to eberglar I'd like to get a Droid, I currently have a BB Curve and my new every two still has a year left on it though, so I don't think I can get this phone at the 2yr contract price. -- "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace." -Jimi Hendrix |

Here's the section about the camera
"The camera, a 5 megapixel autofocus dual LED flash, is straight up disappointing. It doesnt seem to be hardware-related as were almost positive its a software issue, but man
did Kodak just say peace out to Moto or? This thing couldnt focus on any sort of scene, portrait, landscape, a close-up nothing to save its life. On top of pictures not coming out focused properly, the camera application is ridiculously slow, sometimes pausing up to 7 or 8 seconds after youve taken a picture before it will let you snap again. Whats worse is that with geo-tagging enabled, delays get even longer." -- The only thing we have to fear is Fear itself...... and spiders. |

That link notes (with pictures) the inconsistent performance of the camera. That sounds like a software bug that needs to be addressed, rather than a hardware issue. -- trafficcloak.com - pptp/sstp vpn services |

That's a good point. $199 for a phone with a data plan ($30/month) requirement, or $599 for an unlocked phone. The price of that data plan is $360/year, or $720 over the life of the contract. So if you don't want a data plan and can front the cash up-front, you'll come out much better buying an unlocked phone if you can find one. -- trafficcloak.com - pptp/sstp vpn services |

| reply to Alcohol It's not slow at focusing, it has a hard time focusing at times. According to a Moto engineer who posted at Howard Forums, Moto is aware of the issue and is working on resolving it soon. Only time will tell I guess. It hasn't given me much of a headache, yet. |
