| Been using beta and then RC since March. Both worked very well and I had very minor problems if any. Installed 64 bit release about 10 days ago and have had zero problems except my optical output from a soundblaster card isn't working.
My UM175 and CDU680 seem to be working fine and both installed without a problem. 2 reboots for the CDU680 install, I didn't remember that with Vista but it could have been. |

| reply to Jim_in_VA I got my free upgrade from microsoft about to days after the release. Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Did a format and clean install and it has been running great. Uses alot less ram than Vista x64. Couldnt find windows 7 drivers for my 802.11 card but the vista x64 drivers seem to work fine. The only problem i seem to be having is after my computer wakes up from sleep mode it will freeze about 5 mins later. So i cant put it to sleep. Kinda weird. |

| reply to Jim_in_VA Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on a low end laptop, Presario cq50 with 4gig of ram.
couple of minor problems with external keyboard and internal wireless card.
the major problem I have is connecting to a networked printer, it finds it but cannot connect to it.
Other than those problems I love it way better than vista. |

| reply to Jim_in_VA Installed an upgrade over Vista.. (figured I'd see how that worked before doing a clean install)
Surprisingly nice. Everything is quick to respond, snappy if you will.
Has the native fax and scan support again, in the standard version. Not thrilled about Microsoft dumping Windows Mail for Windows Live Mail, though.
Anyway, I'm liking Windows 7.
Oh, about not being able to connect to a network printer.. I've had some success by adding the networked printer as a local printer, then creating a new port with the printer's network address as the new port.. i.e. AddPrinter>AddLocalPrinter>CreateNewPort>LocalPort>"\\Device\PrinterName" |

| I bought the upgrade for one of my computers and my business bought 18 copies for installation on our customers' PCs. I haven't installed mine yet because I want to get a new hard drive first, and I haven't been able to. So I don't have extensive and personal hands on experience with it yet - I do know that from what I have seen and heard that I'm not too excited about the new taskbar... But then I'm one of those few strange people who actually liked Vista! -- Core2Quad Q9450 @ 3.4GHz, XFX 780i SLI mobo, 2x MSI 8800GT OC in SLI, 4GB Patriot Viper DDR2-1066, Samsung 20x optical, Samsung F1 750GB HDD, Antec TP3 650 watt PSU, CoolerMaster Centurion 5 case, Vista Home Premium 64 bit... |

| reply to Jim_in_VA Upgraded my desktop from Vista 32-bit Ultimate to Win 7 64-bit Home Premium (clean install) with no problems. Desktop now runs a bit faster than it did but not really much difference in performance. No issues with drivers, Win 7 recognized everything with no problems. Win 7 seems quite good and I am happy with it so far.
Also upgraded my laptop (old Dell Inspiron 8600) from XP 32-bit to Win 7 32-bit Home Premium (clean install, of course). Everything worked fine but the video driver supplied by Win 7 was not very good (distorted aspect ratio, little control over resolution). Problem solved by downloading and installing a Vista driver for the graphics card (Neither Dell nor Nvidia provides a Win 7 driver for it). The old beast now runs better than it did with XP - a bit snappier performance and all apps run with no problems.
Win 7 had no problem at all recognizing the wireless adapters on both systems and connecting to my MBR1000. The networking in Win 7 is quite good from what I have seen so far. |

1 edit | reply to Jim_in_VA I've got Windows 7 RC x64 on another partition, but I've recently gone back to my XP Pro for my main OS. For some reason in 7 having the Franklin Connection Manager up makes my CPU run about 8-9C hotter than in Windows XP. No idea why that would make a difference, but it does.
I'd rather have temps in the high 40s, low 50s when running CPU intensive apps than in the high 50s to 61-62C. However, I'm also running a stock HSF on my CPU and am considering getting a better one.
EDIT: OTOH...in XP, when I shut the connection manager down my temps actually go up about 4-5C. Really odd this issue -- Windows XP Pro SP3 / Windows 7 64bit RC|AMD Phenom X3 8650|Asus M3N72-D Motherboard|4GB Patriot PC2-8500 1066MHz RAM|EVGA GeForce GTS 250 1GB Ram Superclock Edition |
