1 edit | reply to TigerLord The show caught my attention - but I'm not sure I like the idea of reptiles posing as humans.
Morena portrayed the role of an evil bitch really well - especially when she says not to ask any questions that would paint them negatively, then says at the opening of the interview he can ask whatever and anything he wants and they have nothing to hide, with a big smile on her face...
I just hope when we see them under their "true" form they won't look ridiculous.
On a positive note I was pleasantly surprised to see Laura Vandervoort... I thought she did ok in Smallville and she's a hottie. |

| reply to TigerLord I think that the writer of the show, even back in the 80's corrowed from the UFO crowd. There is a theory.. conspiracy about the earth hosting a couple of alien groups. One is the grays aka Roswell aliens. They are frail and weak, but have excellant mind control. Then there are the reptillains. They are reptile like, where skin suits to pose as human. Both where in a war that destroyed their home world and they came here. There weren't many left, so they have been overt in their war on this planet. Some feel that all the governments are puppets to them.
Only reasom why I know that much is because I used to listen to Art Bell, and had a co-worker who was a member of the tim hat crowd. Though she saif in her circle it is felt that a strong belief in god will prevent you from being under their control.
Ok...
I kinda like the new series, how the advanced a few things, and changed it up a little. Imo, I think it would have been interesting if this had been the second invasion force, that took 20 odd years to get here.
But what ever, it looks ok. -- I want Obama money. "wheres it comming from?" I dunno, his stash. I don't care, I just want obama money. Shows the lack of education and the greed of people. Hand outs from the government comes from your pay check and wallet. Think about it. |

| reply to TigerLord The series has promise, but I can't help but think they screwed a few things up. They told too much from the get go. In the first episode they give away so much I don't think there's any reason to give a spoiler alert. They wasted a really great opportunity to build up to the things they revealed.
For one now we know the Visitors are bad before we even had a chance to really see the "good" side of them. This being a series they could have spent the entire premier showing all the beneficial stuff and show how benevolent the Visitors are. This would have at least built the exposition that would help solidify why humans love them so much to the point of worship.
Second they gave away the lizard aspect way too soon and way too abrupt. Also the way you get the reveal felt like I was being spoon fed the plot. The original series had you find out the same time the characters in the show did (made for better drama). Again this is a series and they could have dragged that out for almost an entire season in spite of what people know about the original series.
Third the resistance movement came way too soon. It's sad the missed potential here. How about that FBI agent going through that terrorist investigation for a few episodes, picking up clues as she goes before the big shocker? It would have made a better plot twist with Alan Tudyk (another Firefly alum). Bring in the resistance and the fact the Visitors have been around a while after you have that FBI girl running from strange assassins and mysteries for a while. I mean where is the excitement in getting all of this on the first episode?
The conspiracy theory on the Visitors being the cause of 9/11 and all the other bad things in the past few decades was lame. It sounds like Alex Jones (www.infowars.com) inspired the plot. The fact they make the show topical means the series is instantly dated and will feel as such ten years down the road.
Of course there good things in V that will make me see it again. I am starting to see the similarities between characters of the original series and the current one. The kid getting involved with youth propaganda group. The news reporter who speaks for the Visitors exclusively. I bet the FBI girl becomes this series' Donovan. We'll see how it pans out, but so far I feel they wasted a good 20 episodes worth of material in one fell swoop. |

I watched it, and while it wasn't BAD, I felt it should've been better.
That said though, the producers knew it was being run on ABC, not exactly a series-friendly network as of late, so they probably have the start - middle - end all lined up now, with no room to BS. But like you said, it would be FAR batter to run this season as the "Aliens are good!" story, until the season finale when they are discovered to be not-so-good. Thus the push for a 2nd season to tell the "resistance" story.
But hey, what do I know? |

| reply to TigerLord To SRFireside and captokita , during the show they show a time line and in it they said "three weeks later".
That said, I do agree too much has been revealed in the beginning and not enough suspense has been built (hence not giving this series much hope because of the changes prior to its pilot ep).
It's a quite a while, but if I do recall in the original mini-series, we find out who the Visitors are (reptilian) very early on, I believe it was the second ep (again not sure). -- Illegal aliens have always been a problem in the United States. Ask any Indian. Robert Orben

| reply to TigerLord In my opinion, this was an aggressive and impressive first showing of the new V.
I did see the original offerings of V in their various forms as a young lad and I recall not really being all that into it overall with few exception. Im comfortable with the pace of the new show and the cast is great. As long as they maintain a reasonable pace and show that they havent run dry I wont complain.
The new incarnation of V may take a slightly different direction then the original and I think I would have to know this first before being able to comfortably say whether or not they have jumped the gun with what they have put forward thus far.
Put it this way, if I recall correctly one of the earliest scenes in the mini-series that introduced the new BSG essentially revealed that Cylons evolved to take human form. This was a new concept and big departure from the original series. Was it a mistake,
..? I think not.
Im willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and a fair degree of latitude,
.for now.
At the end of the day, the only thing that really matters to me is whether I was entertained and yes I was indeed entertained.
I dont think they can really generate interest in the show by taking a sabbatical, at least not for me. For me, absence doesnt make the heart grow fonder it just makes the mind forget. So whatever points they have won with me will have been lost and were back to square one. Since my main Media Center PC is already setup to record the series I wont miss its return but,...... |

| reply to TigerLord I don't think they revealed things too early either. Why? That one line about devotion... I forgot how exactly it went, but it was pretty powerful.
I think what we will see (if they don't take the teenage human/visitor romance too far) is the fight between humans/visitors, and a mishmash of sympathizers on both sides trying to "win".
I think it will be a fun series... after all, the visitors have been amongst the humans for a long time, so who knows how many there really are.
The whole indoctrination/seduction/greed angle should make this a good series. -- Islam is a hate crime: »www.thememriblog.org |

| reply to SRFireside said by SRFireside :Actually V is over 20 years old. Just a few years older than the original BSG. The original BSG aired 1978-9. The original V miniseries aired in 1983. The follow-up, V: The Final Battle came in 1984. The rather painful TV series ran 1984-5. -- There is no giant fur-bearing trout. |

| reply to TigerLord I thought it was funny how they tied the Visitors to all the bad things that have happened in the world... 'Unnecessary wars..' I bet they tie global warming to the Visitors too!
And the interview with Anna... to provide 'Universal Healthcare?' a good chuckle indeed!!
I'll record the series and watch when I can... It started out pretty slow and predictable, then when the spiked drone appeared... now we are talking! Hope they continue to go in different directions to the original. I was very fond of the original mini-series during my middle school years... but never watched the TV series.
