[Internet] 5 outages in a month?

So far for the month of October, i've had 5 outages for the internet. With 3 of them being in the last week. Since i work through out the day and only get online from 1am to about 4am, this is when it always goes down.

Whats going on in Central Florida? Last night it went down again. I did all the basic trouble shooting and waited 30 minutes to call in. The kid on the phone insisted i get a tech out, because i haven't had one out in a few months. WTF? He kept stating there was nothing going on in FL and that i really needed a tech out. They get bonus's for each tech they send out?

Needless to say, 5am rolled around and the internet came back on.

When it is working, it works great. But constant interruptions are beginning to get really old for the amount of money im paying.

If Central Florida is going down i would think the phones would be ringing off the hook. Maybe your modem is bad? Bad surge supressor? Bad house amp? Maybe water in your cable outside? Loose connection in the main box? Sometimes it takes more than one call in a few months to identify these problems. And believe me they hate going to the same house for a repeat problem.

Also keep in mind that a lot of network maintenance happens during those hours.

I live in Lake Mary, and I too have been having problems for the past month or so. It's getting to the point where my net connection drops 4-5 times a day. (TV works fine though).

well, i have had electricians out here to check everything. wasn't cheap. new modem, new cables from pedestal to house, new cable boxes. when the tech showed up today, i told him what had happened, he confirmed an outage the other night.

i normally wait 30 minutes to an hour before calling in, this will give them time to update the IVR if there is an outage. However, this last time they hadn't gotten it up yet.

i'd like to know when there is scheduled maintenance. this way, after i get home from work, i can try to avoid those hours from doing more work and getting interrupted.

but it still doesn't explain, why the tech the other night was so persistent on getting a tech out to the house and didn't want to troubleshoot any issues.

I know this might sound stupid... but... What IP address do you have? I also work in the morning hours and noticed when I had the 97.x.x.x address it seemed like I had more "outage hours" but since I've been moved to 72.x.x.x space (or something happened) I haven't seen as many drops during overnight.

What does your modem log say? If you have a Webstar go to »192.168.100.1/_aslvl.asp set the "Access Level" to 2 and use W2402 as the password. Then, click on "Main Page" and click the "Log" button- it should tell you whats been going on with your connection.
