| [TWC] TWC-NYC: Ripping Off The Customer
Hi.I was going to replace my CableCard with an HD STB, but they want $40 to "upgrade" from a CC to a box. They have to send a tech to "uninstall" the CC and "install" the box so it is considered an upgrade. I told them just to take the CC off my account. They still have to send a tech to "uninstall" the CC. Are these people for real?

Why not pull the CableCard out of your TV or box, take it to a local TWC office and get a cable box? The people at the office will make the needed changes to your account and you won't get billed for a tech visit. |

| reply to RR User RR User, That was my original intent, but CS told me that a tech visit was required.
Update: The TWC service tech missed the scheduled appointment to "uninstall" the CC and I got a TWC supervisor on the line. I told him all I wanted to do was to take the CC to a local TWC office and do an exchange. He said it was OK to do and noted this in my account so there would be no problems. Because TWC service screwed up, I got what i wanted.

| My basement is wired for cable, but I never used a STB down there. I called TWC to ask how much to add a STB. The CR told me the price, but told me I need a service call. I couldn't go to the local office and pick one up. I ask why not, and she told me a tech need to install it. I declined, and the next day I went to the office and picked up a box, no questions asked. |
