| Connect Wireless Automatically
I have a 2Wire 2701HG-T that I use for my wireless in my hotel. What do I have to do to so that my guests computers are automatically assigned an ip address on their computer. I always have to force the address onto their laptops. And that is a pain in the @#%. |

1 edit | You shouldn't have to do anything. As long as they have the two wire broadcast ID and their PC wireless networking is set to DHCP; and if you have a password on the wireless, they'll need that too.
Then they go into their their network connection and it should find the boardcast ID (SSID) - or be able to manually configure it in if you disabled the "broadcast SSID" option.
Check the above one at a time and let us know where you get stuck.
BTW - I use wireless, with broadcast ID not sent, and WPA security, and DHCP. Never had a PC not be able to connect automatically on it's own as long as the proper credentials were typed in. |

| The settings are set on the first button of the 2wire where it says Private Network. 192.168.1.0/225.225.225.0(default) When someone tries to the wireless the 2wire gives out an address of 192.168.0.xxx and router and dns of 192.168.0.4 It connects but can not open the internet. If I go into tcp/ip and manually assign 192.168.1.xxx and the router and dns as 192.168.1.254 we connect to the internet almost instantly. |

It sounds like the guests computers are not connecting to the 2wire access point |

The 192.168.0.x addresses are not being assigned by the 2Wire. You probably have another router attached to one of the 2Wire's Ethernet LAN ports (perhaps you are using it to get more Ethernet ports?) You must disable the DHCP server on that device.
When you get a 192.168.0.x address, open a web browser to 192.168.0.4, and you should see the login page for whatever device is causing your problem. |

| I tried the 192.168.0.4 and nothing showed up. The 2wire runs an ethernet wire to a D-link fast ethernet switch that runs lines to my other wired pc's. |

Until you find and disable that other dhcp server, you'll continue needing to manually assign tcp/ip info |

| I found out I did have a router on the other side of the property. I unpluged it and installed a switch instead and now everything works great. Thank you to all of you for the great help. |
