DSL won't work, interior wiring?

Hawaiian TelCom rep tested outside wiring. Advised that wiring problem is inside the house. Suggested I change all the jacks in the house. I spoke to customer service and they advised for $40 plus $6 per month I can go on the wiring plan and they will fix. Any ideas?

Wiring telephone lines around your home is very easy and safe to do (the voltages on a telephone line are so miniscule that you'll barely feel a shock if you happen to be touching the wire at the same time a call comes in). All you need to do is locate the telephone box somewhere on the outside of your home. Then you trace the telephone line(s) that go around your home and to your jack. Then you just replace this line with CAT3 cabling and replace your telephone jacks. 50ft of CAT3 cabling costs about $10 and a jack costs about $3 at Home Depot. If you're willing to do it yourself and do some research, it'll cost you less than $15 total + several hours. If you ask HT, it's going to cost you $40 + $72 per year.

There's a FAQ on DSL Reports that guides you through a wiring and jack replacement.
