| Can Rogers technician do this???
Hey guys, looking for some opinion on this situation:
I bought a new house in a new neighbourhood in Mississauga and moved in there at the end of May 2009. Got Rogers Express and Basic CableTV. My neighbours that bought house next to me moved in at the beginning of October All was fine till like 3 weeks ago, when all of a sudden couple of my channels in 50-60 lineup became unwatchable and my internet started loosing sync and at some point becomes very slow ( sometimes getting to only about 6.5Mbps). Anyways I tried rebooting my modem router, connected to the computer without router in the middle when the internet became very slow, but no idea where the problem lied.
So until this morning when I decided to cut my lawn, I see this cable poorly hidden under gravel between our houses. It looks like neighbour doesn`t have a cable routed underground in that orange tube as I have. They ordered Rogers as I can see a rogers box on side of their house now and theres cable running from my box to his. I don`t know if the Rogers guy even grounded their box.
My questions are here: 1. Can this be the reason I am experiencing issues I described above? 2. I know the boxes are Roger`s property, but one is mounted on my house and I pay for that connection, more so, I payed to get that cable burried and pulled underground to my house, so can the Rogers technician just connect to my connection without even asking for permission? 3. Options???
Thanks for any helpful replies. Also I don`t want to start any wars with my neighbours (they`re nice), but I am unwilling to help a lazy Rogers technician who just didn`t feel like "wasting" time pulling the cable underground.

| Likely, the installer put in a temporary split from your box, to get your neighbor working, since the builder's drop either wasn't put in, or was NFG...
Roger's techs don't trench in cables, so chances are good that you'll see AECon, TriCon, Trinity, or someone else come run in a new drop from the pedistal to your neighbor, and remove the temp drop from your box.
That said, if you're having troubles, call in a ticket...

| Yeah, but how likely is it for them to come back and not leave it like that permanently. Not very fond of having cable running like this in between the houses.
Also, it would be interesting to know how they hooked it up in my box. I mean, whether they split the incoming line and placed a filter on theirs in case they have no TV. Otherwise I would be providing them with basic cable for free |

| Is that a coaxial wire? Looks very thin to me.
It doesn't really matter whether they have free cable or not. What matters is that you are not getting the service you paid for because of degraded signal. If you have fuzzy channels and the modem is losing sync for more than 24hr - call Rogers ASAP, like right now. |

Contact Rogers and get this fixed before the ground freezes. |

| reply to joko77 Where is your neighbours Bell NID/box? Looks like the orange tube is used to bring in the bell lines like you have. There is also an empty tube just sticking out and this appears to be for the Rogers cable. Why don't you talk to your neighbour and find out what the story is?
A 'good' Rogers tech would have run a temp cable to the main box on the street. Once a proper cable is installed, the temp line is disconnected/removed. Whoever did this was very lazy and took a short cut. Call Rogers and have them do it correctly. |

| Thanks for responses.
That orange tubing in my case is used not only by Bell (for teksavvy connection) but also by Rogers. I paid a Bell guy to pull Rogers coaxial cable through that orange tube as well to have a better protected cable.
Anyways, I am gonna talk to the neighbours about it. Whether the tech told them its temporary or permanent. And if they know nothing about it I am gonna call Rogers and urge them to fix it before winter or am gone. |

| reply to joko77 your signal is being cut in half to feed your neighbour temporarily. you might want to call in and have a technician sent to your and yor neighbours house to re-wire it properly. they should have run a temp line from the street box to his house instead of branching off your main feed. |

1 edit | reply to joko77 In Most areas burials have been concluded for the 2009 year. The cable is RG6/U Drop Cable. It will probably remain like that until spring thaw OR unless a pedestal is close by. By calling rogers and getting a tech out they may put in a dAMP if the signals drop below spec. It depends on the situation though. Don't want to drive your return out of spec.
Edit: If this is a walkway where it can be a trip risk then... *HINT* Call tech support they will escalate to dispatch and maintenance will come in. May get a rush burial in which they will break the burial closure. I run about 3 aerials a night for safety risks. but we have a A/G plant here. |

1 edit | reply to joko77 Well,I spoke to the neighbour about this and he said the technician told him he doesn`t have a buried cable, but not to worry, he would get it done. When the tech came inside he connected their modem (they only have internet service) and said they are connected. He didn`t even mentioned to them it is temporary and looked really surprised when I showed him the cable between our boxes. He told me that he also lost sync couple of times, but he said he didn`t suspect anything cause at his old house, he had trouble with Rogers quite often as well.
So hes gonna call Rogers tommorrow as well as me. Hopefully, they can fix it or else I am pushing for a steep discount on my services.
Thanks again for all the replies. |
