Your modem uses the same line that everyone else's does. In this way, it is different from DSL. With DSL, you get your own line to the CO. WIth cable, you just get your own frequency on the line.

Thank you so much user/user works and I am now able to see the settings of my SPA2102. I was looking around all the settings but I cannot find anywhere to change the Download Limit. I only found the Uplink Limit which is set to 256kbps.

I also found out another problem recently when wiring my network like this

MODEM > VoIP > ROUTER > Computers

Some online games will hang or timed out every 3-10 minutes and I know this because the problem doesn't occur when factory default and no dial tone in the phone (which is the time no speed is being used for the phone).

Almost got me happy, I change that uplink limit to 1024kbps (1mbps)

then I did a quick speed test again, the speed test started from 25 mbps then went down to below


I am not always convince by single tests, so I did another test right after this was done. It went back down :(

Then WOW, what happened again? It's not stable, keep changing. Any advice how to control the speed?

and I got similar slow speed to above :(. And I'll ask the support tech, that login don't work :( I am so wonder why I cannot find anything about the logins to my VoIP modem both their manual and website and yet they changed the default logins.

I didn't buy the SPA2102, I got it from CIA, the ISP. But I bought the MOTOROLLA SB5101 though which isn't the subject of this topic.

Why not get a wrt54gl with tomato or dd-wrt and use the cheaper PAP2T-NA

If you got 10 or 7.54 and 1 up your on cable not dsl.

Only dsl (ppoe) uses a "password" and login.

Your on cable that is docsis.

The password is not right. So what I am going to do now is, I am going to rewire like you suggested but in order to tweak some settings, I need to get into the admin panel right? uhm factory defaulting will solve that part but then again I won't have dial tone. When go to myaccount.cia.com to click the link which reconfigures my SPA for dial tone I will need to connect my PC directly to SPA again :(. I will try that if it fixes it, if not I will try phoning CIA tomorrow.

That would restrict things, I would think... All traffic has to pass through the device, which adds lag and complicates things tremendously.

I realize it's not a trivial process for most people. The way CIA has it setup is actually better for voice as the Linksys is supposed to prioritize voice packets.

By use it as just an ATA, I mean not use the routing capabilities of the Linksys. Thus, my setup is like the following

Modem --- Router --- Computer/Linksys ATA

The way CIA wants you to set it up is:

Modem --- Linksys ATA -- Computer

You may need to tweak the ATA a bit so it works in such a configuration.

How may I do that? I just realized after I phoned them because of the no dial tone after I factory defaulted, they asked me to login to myaccount.cia.com and then I clicked on a link in that page and my SPA is somehow back to how it originally was the first time I got from CIA. I don't know the password, it's not "admin" and "password". What might they be?

And by the way, what do you mean by "use as ATA"? I don't quite understand that part.

If you use the SPA as a ATA and not a router, I believe it should improve your speeds. Just punch the SIP settings manually and don't use their autoconfigure.

I don't have anything being downloaded or uploaded. Currently in my system tray there are

KIS 2010 (not being updated)
FastStone Capture
MeGUI (not being updated)

I checked my "Task Manager" and there's nothing I know that consumes a lot of bandwidth/speed. The other computers on the network are shutdown so they can't be using the speed.

But if I do a factory reset to the SPA2102 VoIP modem using the phone which will erase the dial tone but you will get full or more speed than you did before. See this, I did this test the time I didn't have my dial tone.

The speed is better but I don't have a live home phone anymore. That's the only down part right now but I would really appreciate any help regarding this problem. I want to have dial tone this speed above.

EDIT: If you are wondering why my test servers aren't same, that's because when I had dial tone in the phone the "Hamilton" server didn't come up as "Recommended" but came up as "Recommended" when I didn't have the dial tone. By the way, I tested all the yellow servers on speedtest.net to make sure I pick the best speed I could get.
