Simple cheap pingable device?

I just did a new PoP that we have been informed can have unreliable power, we installed a large UPS here but power could go out and no one know for hours/even days.

I was going to take some unused or damaged radio that still can be set up/configged to just be something to ping, that isnt plugged into UPS power, that the dude could flag as down, and at what time it went down, to gauge if we are driving out there with a genny.

But can anyone think of some ready made device thats really cheap that you can set up an IP on, ping it, and plugs in?

Depending on your UPS you could either get the management card for it, or use a RB411U to monitor the UPS status and email you if the power is out along with the battery status.

Ya MY UPS doesnt have a card you can add to it, and is not an APC so not likely a compatible UPS to mikrotik.

I just did up an non sync-ing DSL modem and it will work perfectly, the dude can send emails when it fails to ping.

I've setup an IP power device like that, but on the remote end. I've got a it plugged into the ups and a 5V transformer plugged into the non UPS side. It has an email feature built in. I thought i'd share the idea for others.

You can use a miniature "device server" ...

This old post lists a few: »Re: Data Acquition Module

I have an IP camera set up. Serves as a pingable test unit and pays its own way.
